I saw Derren yesterday in Guildford playing a policeman in Agatha Christie's THE UNEXPECTED GUEST. He was a little heavier than he used to be but given he is 72, it was good to see him still at work and looking so well. Also in the cast were Susan Penhaligon and Mark Wynter.

I always thought Derren had a great gift for comedy although he didn't get a chance to do that too often. (Remember him in OOH YOU ARE AWFUL?)

YES! I watched that one a while back and slowed up the sequence on the dvd, just to make sure it was him!! Wasn't that the one with a slightly blacked-up Peter Sallis as well?

I've got a 1956 theatre programme with him in the cast list. Might make a nice little extra to go along with whatever you decide to get him. On the other hand he may have a cupboard full of them already....

PM me if you want it (no charge).

I also saw The Unexpected Guest recently - Derren looked as if he'd walked in from another, rather more entertaining production of the play, that was happening somewhere else.

He was also probably the most lively interviewee in the recent Network Prisoner 40th Anniversary documentary.
