Glad you like them. I hope you're including the ones with gratuitous shots of telephones and unnecessary chart information! Thanks again.

Oh dear - sorry if I spoiled anything. But at least the Irish lass' (Evie?) departure means we get the magnifient Ruby.

£45 for the whole series? That's 70p an episode! Bargainacious

Smile George Innes

Hello, group. I'm a new member to British Film Forum. I'm American but am a huge fan of British films.

Since some of you have wondered, I'd like to update you on what actor George Innes has been up to lately. In August, he will be at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with his one man show "Tribute" to John Gielgud's Ages of Man. It is a series of Shakespearean soliloquies, sonnets, commentaries - and it is terrific!
It is running from August 8th - August 30th, 12:15pm - 2:15pm at Laughing Horse Outhouse Theatre at 12A Broughton Street Lane. The admission is free (although you may need a Fringe ticket) and I invite you all to come!

In the years mentioned, George was doing theatre in America. Appearing in Los Angeles at the Doolittle/Ahmanson theatre in Noel Coward's "The Vortex," in Chicago at the Steppenwolf in "The Rise and Fall of Little Voice," which transferred to Broadway. Then he was in New York doing an off-Broadway play "The Lodger" while developing his one man show "Tribute." He also spends a lot of time with his family here in America.

Hello, You are all very kind in your words and encouragement to George. I am the "Cherie" that George met and married while filming The Last Valley way back in 1969. George is completely computer illiterate, and so unelectronical that it took two years of writing down instructions on how to use the ATM machine before he could withdraw funds without his cheat sheet! So.... I am surfing the net for him and came across this site. I will print it out for him. How fun...Brings back a lot of fond memories.
Our home in California was earthquaked a number of years ago, and we lost most of our stills of his work in the rubble. Since I am in the process of trying to bring George into the 21st Century by getting a website together for him, I was wondering if I could "Pinch" a few of your photos from your captures and use on the site. I would be glad to give you credit for their use.
I hope to get the site up and running before the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Although time is quickly marching on and I have only just gotten the press releases written! Please let me know how you feel about this. Have a wonderful summer all of you, and THANK YOU again!

Default George Innes in 'Billy Liar' and 'Charlie Bubbles' [repost of #1]

Hello again Cherie,

I have just sent you a message and re-uploaded the first two captures from this thread at Photobucket
(which I should never have reduced), so now you can see them in their original, proper size:

According to IMDB, this was George's first screen appearance, as Stamp in Billy Liar (1963)

This is still my favourite image of George, a silent role in one of my all-time favourite films ...

As the Garage Attendant in Charlie Bubbles (1967)

Regards to George. Please tell him I especially liked his performances in Gumshoe, also starring Albert Finney
and now on DVD (at last), a short film called The Engagement, with David Warner, and of course as
Alfred the Footman in Upstairs, Downstairs. Sorry I haven't watched many things after the mid-1970s.

Kindest Regards,
Marius (Cornershop15)

Default You guys are quick!!

lol..Gosh those photos bring it all back..who ever knew we were so young..Thank you too Wearysloth...If you would like me to use your real names as credits I will or I will just leave your identities, or if you wish a link. I have the domain name, but am in the process of chosing a host.

Thank you for your private message, I cannot figure out how to send one,or I wouldn't be answering here. Please forgive me. How could I complain that it was George who was not tech savy..

A far as UXB you mentioned that you just finished watching- We had been trying to have a baby for several years...should have know we should have spent more time at the seaside. We were in the Norwich area I think, it is where they have those yummy crabs..and at last it happened. The cast and crew all had UXB tee shirts, and I had one given to me too, only it said UnXpected Baby..eventually I looked like one of those bombs walking around in it. I really filled it out. They were a great cast and a great crew, lots of time singing in the Pubs, Bob Pugh a wonderful tenor!!
If you ever get a chance there was a series he filmed in England, but showed here in the USA for CBS, called QED. Very funny starring Sam Waterston and George.
THANK yOU AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP!

I am delighted that "Cheri" has decided to join British Film Forum. We are pen pals sharing an interest in the career of George Innes - although she knows a little bit more about him than I do.

To the fans on this site, I want you to know that I've created a George Innes Appreciation Society fan page on Facebook. It is interactive and I would love it if you would come over there on occasion. I will start a discussion and maybe you could all join in. (If anyone has a suggestion for a discussion, I'm all ears.)

Remember, George will be at the Fringe Festival in August with his wonderful Shakespeare show called "Tribute." My husband and I are scraping our pennies together to get up there. Luckily, I've seen it three times in NYC and it is brilliant.

I would like to transfer some of these photos to facebook. Is that possible, wearysloth?

Wearysloth: Thanks for all the great photos. I am going to try to copy them over to facebook. I'd like to email you privately but sadly can't figure out how to do it! If you come over to Facebook, just google "facebook-george innes." It will take you to the 540 men named George Innes but our George should come up first or second. Click on that and voila. It's still in early stages and many of his NYC friends are nattering away but I'd love to have you chime in.

Wearysloth: George's facebook page has some interesting rehearsal shots from my play "The Lodger." Please feel free to borrow them or I will send them to you if I can figure out how to do that. I also have some professional shots taken by the Broadway photographer Ken Howard. I'll gladly pass them on.

Default Thank You Again

Cornershop, Weary Sloth et al,
Thank you very much for all your help. I was without internet for almost 3 days and I thought I was going through withdrawal. I was in the middle of this project when the internet system went down. Like Delores, I too would like to thank you privately but do not know how to find the link. Perhaps it displays differently over here.

Since George does not have nor does he know how to use the computer, I am making copies of all these pages and putting together a little book for him at Christmas. I think it is lovely after so many years in the business, that there are still so many who are so interested. And as he would say he "would be chuffed" by all of it. So again, thank you all.

He is getting ready to return to England and the summer festival, but broke down in his little 1983 Datsun in Morristown Tennessee. He was between completing The Lodger off Broadway and visiting our 2 daughters and the grandkids who live here in the United States, They were very good to him there and practically turned the car inside out to find out what was wrong. but after 2 weeks, at last he is on his way.

Have a wonderful summer, and I will keep checking the site for any news for my little Christmas Pressy and the website. I also will attribute your contribution. I tried a screen capture on my Vista OS and it flatly refused to cooperate.

Default George Innes in 'Budgie' - Part 1

It's been a little quiet here recently, but I have a couple of brand new captures to keep the thread going (exactly 900 views so far) and will choose the best of the rest soon. These are from the episode A Pair of Charlies where Budgie - Adam Faith of course - visits George's workshop and almost gets killed during an experiment ("Budgie gets blown up - and let down")!

George plays Jumbo Stevens, who finds it difficult to control his lust for Hazel (Lynn Dalby):

I miss the old red telephone boxes:

Original ITV transmission: 4th June 1971, when Knock Three Times by (Tony Orlando &) Dawn was #1

When you understand the past, the confusion of the present becomes clearer - John Betjeman.
