and as the photo has similar tints to The Saint in Lord Brett's avatar, it looks as though a gun is about to be fired in his direction

A most enjoyable thread.

... Robert Donat ... (England's greatest!)
... John Barrymore ... (America's greatest!)
... Cary Grant ... ("Holiday" 1938)
... Clark Gable ... ("It Happened One Night" (1934)
... Charles Boyer ... ("Love Affair" 1939)
... Colin Firth ... ("Pride and Prejudice" 1995)
... Timothy Dalton ... ("Jane Eyre" 1983)
... Jeremy Northam ... ("The Winslow Boy" 1999)

... and so on ...

I think that Leonardo DiCaprio is becoming an excellent actor.

NO, Lord Brett! Not with your reputation as 'The Sword of Damocles'! Please don't shoot my Sam!
I missed him on 'Roadhouse' the other night (I was resting my eyes about an hour before it started....and woke up at 5am!) - but he gets killed off too soon in it anyway.
I love him in 'The Legacy', 'Blue Jean Cop' and 'Tombstone'.

A Sam Elliott quote:
"I don't want to be known as a sex symbol. There's a great stigma that goes with that tag. I want to be a Sam Elliott." (Quoted in the December 1976 isue of "Playgirl.")
Damn! I missed that issue! I wonder where the staples ended up?

Has anyone mentioned hardy kruger in blind date? what a total fox. love all that shoulder-baring, angsty artist business. What a shame trevelyan insisted nude scene came out...

I would never do harm to a hipster like Sam!

I was disappointed to see that the beeb didn't widescreen Roadhouse. The cheapskates should try to get a better copy next time they show it!

I do. Apart from, as you say, a few of them .... most of today's 'star' actors are a pretty insipid bunch. In the 'old' days there were, to name but a few, Robert Donat, Trevor Howard, Dirk Bogarde, young Connery, Patrick McGoohan, Stewart Granger, Stanley Baker et al .... plus megastars like Richard Burton and Cary Grant. Apart from a couple of them, most would be in the 'character actor' bracket these days on looks alone.
