I see TV Chef James Martin has been mentioned on another thread, and as it's okay to class TV Presenters and Chefs along with Actors (which they all basically are!) then there's nothing more to say!

I would have done that, Mark O, as he is another particular favourite in the Starry-Lovett house - but I already posted him on the Heston 'Bloominghell' Services thread myself and felt that it would have looked a bit obsessive of me; so thank you.

Are there any votes for Roger Livesey from the ladies in this group?
I was reading the message board for I Know Where I'm Going! on the IMDb and there were a few comments about him there: Roger Livesey! by bgh48 (Fri Oct 27 2006 15:13:38) Brad Pitt? George Clooney? Sean Connery? Paul Newman? Robert Redford? Matthew McConnahy? These screen sex symbols pale beside velvet-voiced, steady-as-she-goes, pipe-smoking, quiet but ardent Scot Roger Livesey in this film, one of the most romantic ever made. When he tells Wendy Hiller, after they both listen to a Celtic song, "you're the girl for me", that about wraps it all up for me. Women, do you agree with me?? Re: Roger Livesey! by doglady45 (Fri Oct 27 2006 23:47:59) Absolutely, totally agree, weak at the knees or what? Re: Roger Livesey! by SandySmith (Mon Nov 6 2006 22:41:00) Yep, he'll do. I wouldn't throw him out of bed for eating biscuits. You know just where you are with a man like that. I just don't know where a man like that is! Re: Roger Livesey! by IsoldeJaneHolland (Thu Jan 4 2007 09:35:19) It was good casting. I own the Criterion Collection DVD and a film historian doing commentary decribes Livesey's voice as "warmly brown." I never thought of voices having any particular colour, but it's true! One of the few false notes in this (my favourite film) is when Joan says she doesn't think Torquil looks 29. Honestly! LOL. Re: Roger Livesey! by bgh48 (Tue Feb 6 2007 23:31:09) Yes, "warmly brown" does describe it; how lovely. 29, hahaha! My fave too. Re: Roger Livesey! by SandySmith (Sun Feb 25 2007 13:48:44) Then he says he's four years older. Listen to the way she delivers the line - 29 - she's just teasing him! She knows he's older. Re: Roger Livesey! by Harold_Robbins (Fri Mar 9 2007 03:40:23) Roger Livesy's distinctive physical appearance and voice made him an actor whom once encountered is seldom forgotten, yet I was unfamiliar with him until I watched THE PALLISERS about 2 years ago - highly recommended. Re: Roger Livesey! by Stan-64 (Wed Dec 5 2007 14:03:29) I wish I could live inside Roger Livesey's voice. It would be safe and warm and wonderful in there. |

There is a nomination for him somewhere in this thread I'm sure. IIRC the poster said it was his voice that did it for her.

I don't come here to be insulted, you know - and, before you ask, I'm not telling you where I usually go!

Before anybody comments, I do realise that Richard Chamberlain isn't British, but he has been in many British films and lived over here for a while in the 70s, so I felt jsutified (hic!) in adding him.
