Perhaps it's time we geezers redressed the balance. According to my better half, Sean Connery wins hands down. Perhaps some of the ladies of the forum have a different opinion???

Not much take up here yet? If this were an international thread, Betty Blue's handyman Zorg (Jean Hugues-Anglade) might get his pecker in. Certainly when I went to see it at the cinema, there were as many women as men in the audience. Being an 'art-house' French film, I guess they felt OK about admiring his manhood and his toned physique.

As for British actors, it's a bit sad if the only one anyone can suggest is the pensioner milkman from Fountainbridge! He got his bus-pass from Edinburgh District Council years ago (though he doesn't get much use of it in Marbella!) |

Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jaye Davidson are reasonably appealing from my perspective, but I don't expect that to be a popular one. I must admit that I've never really grokked the business of swooning over film stars. An ex girlfriend of mine used to insist that they're 'chosen' (she made it sound like a religious act) because they're naturally more beautiful than ordinary people could hope to be. I said "Bollocks. Give me half an hour with my make-up kit and the right lighting and I could give practically anybody that glamour." Some people may have fewer hurdles to overcome than others, but faces don't naturally glow the way they do on film, or show off eyes and cheekbones that way - that's all part of the film-makers' craft. So me, I just see people onscreen, not gods, and they're unlikely to be the sort of people I'd go for.

Conrad Veidt!!!! Very HOT! For me he is THE sexiest actor - cruel or charming, or both!
I also have a special affection for Eric Portman too - cruel with less charm perhaps. Then there is John Barrymore, John Gilbert, Errol Flynn (of course), Valentino, George Raft, Gary Cooper, Dirk Bogarde, Nigel Patrick... Ronald Colman, Leslie Howard, Henry Fonda - just wonderful... Stewart Granger - very fit! There are many more (I am partial to bit of Tre-e-e-ev - aka Trevor Howard) Yes, very, very nice to think on this one... Those are my favourites! I shall think on. Lois |

I had to use that avatar so that if I got bored reading what I'd written I could at least look at something a lot more interesting.

A young Oliver Reed and Malcolm McDowell, good looking, well spoken, well mannered, charming, charismatic and with a hint of uncontrolability and the life and soul of the party. One look from those disarming eyes can drive you to do something that you wouldn't normally think of doing!
The modern UK actors who play leading men haven't got a clue! |
