Default Richard Leech (1922-2004)

Sadly passed away, 24 March 2004. Dublin born, Leech qualified as a doctor, but opted out to become actor. Many stage and film appearances. Films included 'Night To Remember' and 'Ice Cold In Alex'.

I'll always remember him as the elusive "safe cracker" in "The Long Arm."

I followed the career of this fine Irish-born actor (& qualified Doctor) with a fabulous voice, for almost 40 years and ended up as his personal 'archivist'. I'm still adding items to his files posthumously and would welcome any positive feedback. If anyone has theatre programmes, letters, memorabilia, TV or Radio recordings I would be extremely interested. He did so much more than appear in 'Ice Cold in Alex', 'The Dambusters' and a series of 'Dr. Who' but unfortunately it's often just this little trio that gets trotted out good though they were! Someone must remember his 1963 Mr Rochester in 'Jane Eyre', his 1966 John Thornton in 'North & South', his Richard Bolt in 'The Gold Robbers', his Dr. Hayman in the 1969 TV soap 'The Doctors' his Crestwell the Butler in Noel Coward's 'Relative Values' etc., etc. etc.
Huge thanks to anyone who can genuinely help.

Wish I could help more. I agree a very underrated actor who doesn't seem to have got the recognition he deserves. I'll remember him in one of my favourite Ealing movies 'The Long Arm' (1956) as the mysterious Mr Gilson.

Thanks for the memory! Ah yes, Gilson!! The thing I like best about that film are the streets - almost devoid of any parked cars! In his dotage Richard mourned those days when he was a physically fit 34 year old!
