Jeff, you saw 90 year old Peter Copley in Riot at the Rites. I saw him filming the scenes. His film career began in 1934 in the British short "Tell Me If It Hurts", which was the first short film broadcast on television.
Thanks for that interesting information, James

Amazing. I remember The Hasty Heart (1949) and The Virgin Queen (1955), the latter 51 years ago.

Best,

Barbara
Cant forget him in The Dambusters (1954). He still holds 617 squadron close to his heart and last year made a personal appearance at their base albeit i am told in a wheel chair.

And I think you picked out the oldest so far. The oldest working actor in Germany is much older, Johannes Heesters, whose film career goes back to 1924. He appeared on stage last year. He is 102 now.

Steve Crook and I happened to meet him late last year...and while he looked a tad older than the last time I had seen him on screen, he doesn't look anywhere near his age, I would have guessed at 80 perhaps....and what a delightful gentleman he remains.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

I was with Steve Crook when we also briefly met Herbert Lom at the NFT, after a screening of IKWIG. Were you there too?

Yes, you were both there

James, Mark was the chap with the beard that wasn't me

Sorry, I didn't have time for formal introductions. I was mainly making sure that Margot Fitsimons ("Bridie" in IKWIG) was looked after. I've actually met Herbert before. But that was only briefly as well.

Steve

There is a signed photo of Herbert Lom on the wall of the Czech House (Pub) in West Hampstead.

My older sister told me that in the 50s, for the price of a reasonably-priced admission ticket members of the public could attend open-air "film" soirees where one could rub-shoulders with many of those British film celebrities we drool about to-day who were then in their prime. Herbert Lom was one she mentioned as seeing at one of these "dos". Oh for a trip on Dr.Who's Tardis. Don't know if I'd join the return flight though!
