A few years ago (around the turn of the decade) Jeremy was for a couple of years a member of Battersea Chess Club in London, which I still belong to. I remember him well and played quite a few friendly games against him. He was a very decent standard club player, wore a cravatte and liked drinking red wine! There was one season when he captained one of the teams. I was not at the time aware of his acting past and have just spent the last couple of hours in a state of amazement watching him in the film "The Prince and the Showgirl" with Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier, where Jeremy has an important role playing the King of Carpathia visiting a royal wedding in England (Olivier is the Prince Regent who has a fling with a showgirl (Monroe) - he is also secretly plotting his father's downfall and the showgirl becomes aware of this. At one point, to my considerable amusement, Marilyn refers to my former chess club colleague as a "naughty boy". As noted in one of the other posts, the last we heard of him at the club, he was going to move to the West Country.
