Hi Fred,

Like you I have tried to gain information on Dickie Valentine's life but there seems very little out there. I have trawled through website after website and apart from a brief history of his singing career and his discography I have found very little information on the man himself.
I cannot even find any details regarding the circumstances of his fatal car crash.

I remember Dickie being a big star on British television in the sixties and its a shame that his life story is not covered in more detail.
Keep me posted if you find anything Fred.

Dave.

There is so little written about the late great Dickie Valentine.
If I remember correctly, he is buried in Egham in Surrey.
I also believe that his son uses the name Richard Valentine and is a director; I think it may be him who directs The Weakest Link - perhaps you can check with the BBC?
(There is another RV who is a writer but I don't think it's him.)

Apparantly Dickie and family lived at Rivers Edge, a house situated near Egham, Surrey.
The large four bedroom house had a tall wrought iron gate, an indoor swimming pool and was situated on the banks of the Thames.
The house came up for sale in 2003 with an asking price of 900,000 pounds.

I always understood from publicity material at the time, that Dickie Valentine was working as a page boy at the London Palladium when he was 'discovered' and his career took off from there.

I once worked with a guy who had been an aspiring comedian who had worked with Valentine on a couple of occasions. He told me that Valentine's car caught fire in the crash (which happened in fog) and he had to be identified by his belongings.

However, he also told me that the crash was in the north of England, and as Wales seems to be the actual place, his stories may be flawed.

There are plenty of CD's available covering just about every recording Dickie Valentine made (and because of their limited appeal they are quite cheap!).

There is a brief bio on this webpage: Dickie Valentine Bio.

It states that, after appearing in films as a child actor, he became a theatre call boy and trained as a singer at the same time.

What I can remember about his death was that it was a car crash ,he was trapped in the car and it caught fire and he burned to death.

All I know is he was born Richard Bryce in 1929 and sang with Ted Heath Band from about 1949 until 1953 or 4. Your right though he really is a mystery regards his life. I do seem to recall that he was with a woman in the accident, and it was in Wales.

Yes, I'm sure I remember reading that it was a fire and not the crash that killed him.

He was member of the singing group "Stargazers",who was the first British act to top the UK singles charts with Broken Wings (not to be confused with the Mr Mister hit).

If you Google 'Stargazers' you will find that Dickie Valentine was not a member, but they were used as backing singers for many of his recodings. I am pretty certain that the Stargazers only number one was "I See The Moon" (the moon sees me) and their web entry seems to confirm this.
