Default will hay lived in handover hampshire

dont know if this is correct but my mother in law said when she was a child living in handover hampshire that will hay used to live in a big house on top of her road it was a big house with grounds and she used to see him and is wife i take it to be walking around the grounds, just wondering if this is correct cant see no reason why my mother in law would lie about this, but can anybody confirm this,
cheers all.

According to the Will Hay biography 'Good Morning Boys' he lived in a large house at 45 THe Chase, Norbury. When his marriage broke up in 1934 he moved to a mock-Tudor house in Hendon Way and later at the Mount Royal Hotel when he became ill with cancer he moved to a flat on the Chelsea Embankment.

Hi Mark

I don't remember where I read it (may even have been this site ) but I'm pretty sure that Will Hay stayed at the Swan Hotel, Alton (still there!) while filming Oh Mr Porter

I have often looked at old British movies and wondered where stars like Kenneth More, Stanley Holloway, Derek Bond etc.etc.etc.etc. went home to at the finish of the movie. Indeed, in the case of Holloway I spent some time researching exactly that and learned that he lived on the Kent coast near Folkestone. Does anyone know of a source of information giving details such as the location of the homes of yesteryears stars ?

Many of them lived in Buckinghamshire because that was close to quite a few of the studios. It was also quite easy to get into the West End because most British film stars also did a lot of stage work. In fact it was often the case that they did a few films as well as their stage work.

There have already been several threads about this, but usually under the title of the film. Maybe we need a separate forum for them so that we can have lots of different threads all in the same area?
