Default Dame Anna Neagle

I am always mystified but the lack of web attention given to this great British star. Once upon a time her films used to be shown on television too but now years go by without a glimpse of one.

Does anyone else share my admiration for her?

Yes Alec, she was an actress I liked very much, although her marriage to Herbert Wilcox probably gave her career a massive boost. I don't think she was a great actress, but she brought a great deal of style and sophistication to the screen and I particularly enjoyed her in They Flew Alone and Odette. She also had the distinction of appearing in 4 of the top 50 films released in Britain in terms of ticket sales. They were: Spring in Park Lane (20.5 million); The Courtneys of Curzon Street (15.9 million); Picadilly Incident (11.5 million); and, I Live in Grosvenor Square (10.3 million). Not a bad legacy.

Regards
Phil Turner

She did quite a few tragic heroines and played them very well.
Nell Gwynn, Nurse Edith Cavell, Amy Johnson, Odette, Florence Nightingale.

I just finished watching "Irene," in which she starred with Ray Milland... I don't know too much about her other than she was a household (well, in my house anyway!) name when I was young. I know I've obviously seen her in some of the films mentioned in this thread, and for some reason, she reminds me of Maureen O'Sullivan.
"Irene" was pleasant, what some people might call fluff, but there was a lovely ball sequence, apparently shot in Technicolor, "Alice Blue Gown," with Neagle and Milland waltzing.

Default Anna Neagle

Hi- here is an age give away. In 1946 I was working in a theatrical coutourier establishment in Grosvenor square, london. I dressed many stars among them Anna Neagle. She was a lovely lady, always remembering our names. I emigrated to Canada in 1948. My husband is buried in Vancouver. I worked from 1955 to 1991 in the film industry-optical effects- at Denham Laboratories. England. all best

I like to visit where Actors/Singers I was, and am still a Fan of used to reside, though I was a little dissappointed Dame Anna's plaque was 12ft up!........apologies for the Scaffolding, maybe it'll be cleared by Christmas!

The Green plaque is up above to the left of the BMW logo

Still, at least Herbert and Anna had a nice view of Hyde Park!
