I agree always thought he was rather an underated actor, caught him fairly recently in a good episode of Danger Man with Patrick McGoohan.

Good actor, but always strruck me he had a bit of an attitude, think he was close to Burton but got left behind. Had a good range, always believable in whatever he was in.

Not sure about Donald but my father worked on the TV film Ballroom which starred Glyn Houston and said he was a real gentleman

Default Donald Houston

A gentle giant and typically unrecognised by his own country.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with him in 1970's London when he did a voice-over for a documentary I produced about industrial design.

I loved his role in 1949 the Ealing comedy 'A Run for Your Money' (with fellow countrymen Meredith Edwards and Huw Griffith) as an innocent young man up in the big bad city.

An actor I also liked very much. I watched him recently in Doctor in Distress and I always thought he had a particular flair for light comedy, although he tackled many varied roles. He was one of those reassuring, familiar faces of British cinema, and I always think of him with affection. Good to note that his younger brother, Glyn, recently celebrated his 80th birthday.

Regards
Phil Turner

I developed a great liking for Donald Houston ever since I saw him in “A Run For Your Money”. His Dai was so (as Jo said) sweet.

I have a small Houston photo album on my profile page; please feel free to take a look.

A Run for your Money, I had forgotten about this little gem, if I remember rightly some good locations of fifties London.

Unfortunately, having been released the same year as Kind Hearts and Coronets, Passport to Pimlico, and Whiskey Galore!, A Run For Your Money is almost always written of by critics as inferior to the preceding three films. ‘Inferior’ isn’t at all the proper word for it – a “little gem” describes A Run For Your Money nicely.
Yes, it has some very interesting shots of London – the Tower of London and Piccadilly Subway are among them.

P.S. Twm’s rendition of All Through the Night was lovely – can anyone tell me if Meredith Edwards did his own singing?
