Default Richard Aubrey anyone?

I am trying to help a friend trace her father, Richard Aubrey. This is a bit of a long shot really. Aubrey was in the West End, playing a small part in "Bless the Bride" at the Apollo Theatre in 1947. By 1950 he had left the acting profession but, between 1947 and 1950 worked in films (supposedly). Has anyone ever heard of him?

Just googling, and it may be purely a coincidence of names but there is a Richard Aubrey credited on imdb as a screenwriter, once in 1966 and again in 1971 for an 'English spaghetti western':
Cast of A Town Called Bastard - Time Out Film

I can find no other references to this Richard Aubrey either.......

Thanks. Yes. I had spotted that too. Unlikely to be my man though. By 1950 Aubrey had become a "River Detective". I am trying to find out more about the writer though - just in case.

I asked him to look at the body. That's who he is.

What or who is a "River Detective"?. Was it Roger Moore in "THE SEINET"?.

Default River Detective

"River Detective - formerly in films" is what Aubrey gave as his profession in 1950. I assume that he was employed by the Port of London Authority and am trying to verify that. He was not employed by the Met Police. Aubrey was or is the father of a friend of mine who was given up for adoption. I am merely trying to find out more about him. I admit it does sound like the title of a 60's police series.

I asked him to look at the body. That's who he is.

Default Richard Aubrey on Credits

I would be eternally grateful if members who have British Movies from the 1945 to 1960 period would check the credits when viewing to see if Richard Aubrey turns up in the smaller parts. This is proving a tough trail to follow.

Finally got round to looking at my Theatre Who's Who for 1952. I meant to do it when you first posted..... It has West End theatre listings from 1946 to May, 1951.

The play "Bless The Bride" was actually put on at the Adelphi Theatre, not the Apollo Theatre. It was first performed on 26 April, 1947 and was evidently very successful, running for 886 performances. The cast list does not include a Richard Aubrey, but I think theses lists only ever showed the original cast-lists so that doesn't prove much. It was a musical play and the producer was Wendy Toye (personally listed in the Who's Who as actress/dancer). The Adelphi obviously has no other Listings for the rest of that year. In February it had been hosting 'International Ballet'.

The Apollo around this time looks to have been hosting a comedy play called 'She wanted a cream front door', featuring Ian Carmichael. That was first performed in February and ran for 129 performances.

In casting around, by chance I noted an actor in a small part named 'Aubrey Richards' but he is evidently a fairly well-known actor.....

but my initial thought was that your man may have had a stage-name.........

That might be making things impossible for you.

Default Richard Aubrey

Thanks for that. I have seen a programme from Bless the Bride and Aubrey was 2nd Customer. I have now discovered that he was also in Big Ben at the Adelphi in 1946 and Tough at the Top in 1949.
I have considered that Richard Aubrey might be only a stage name. He was a member of British Actors Equity at some time but, as his membership lapsed, there is no detail attached to his record. I cannot find a birth registration for a Richard Aubrey in Wales in 1920 - spookily, Aubrey Richards was born in that year.

I asked him to look at the body. That's who he is.

this is a little odd...

i recently bought a handtyped screenplay from a second hand book store...simply because it looked like a genuinely interesting old curiosity.

it's called 'no way out' and apparently is written by a richard aubrey...

...googling his name i ended up here. hello, does this help? :)

Why not make a little effort and say something useful?

He was mainly a TV and Stage actor but he made also around 10 movies.

Search him under the name AUBREY RICHARDS and you get many infos thrue Internet..I remember his name and face !!!
I worked with so many actors in all these years so i can`t tell you if we both been once in a same stage or TV play ??? I mean he was in a small part at a Shakespeare Play with me in the 50tys ???? At Old Vic Company ????
