Default Richard Wattis

I have always found him irrestible and was rather disturbed not to find a couple of his films listed in his filmography on IMDb:

"I Am a Camera" as one of the 3 men at the end (attending a publication party for Sally Bowles) who chat to Isherwood.

"Escapade" at the very beginning one of the men attending the pacifist meeting at John Mills's house--he leaves his umbrella behind and has to go back for it.

I sent IMDb a note on IAAC and received the usual email back that "they were looking into it". That was at least 9 months ago, and while I realize that the site must get thousands of additions and queries, I was a little disappointed that his already very large list of films was not added to!

Steve can you do anything--if you agree that it is, in fact, Wattis in these two films?

He was everywhere at one time it seemed to me. I love his 'turn' as Hardy, Danger Man's Boss. He was always watchable.

I'm half-certain he was in an opening scene of McGoohan's first credited movie, "Passage Home", as well. I'll have to check.

Having watched the start of 'Passage Home', I realised it wasn't that film that included Richard Wattis at the beginning; so I tried 'I Am a Camera' (which imdb has got him for) and realised that was the one. My only excuse can be that both films commence with a scene that segues into a movie-in-flashback.

It is fairly easy to get additions and amendments made to Imdb listings and usually takes between 7-14 days.
It only takes a few minutes to do and you just keep an eye on the page to see when it's done.

You have whetted my appetite. I see that "Danger Man" it has been put on DVD. Is Wattis in most episodes?

Must see if my Anglophilic rental place has it, though they seem to lean heavily to BBC and I note that this was ITV. Complete collection available for $100 on E-bay International Stores. At this moment, a little rich for my blood.

I have been lucky enough to work with both of them. I saw and spoke with Patrick in Santa Monica a few years ago. As for Richard, he was a delight. Fine actor and a joy to work with. He is missed. John Llewellyn

Richard Wattis only features in a half-dozen or so I think (sadly). I expect he had other fish to fry. I was looking at his entry in an old Theatre Who's Who last night and I really hadn't realised how old he was...... born in 1912 and first featured in a film in 1937!!!!!!! I had always took him to be not dissimilar in age to Patrick McGoohan but he was much older. He must have had good skin....

I was tempted to make a flip remark such as "You lucky man", but then noting your own imdb details, I don't think luck comes into it.

I noticed you were the Director of that much-mentioned (in McGoohan-lore) TV Play, The Big Knife. I understand that it no longer exists. However I realised recently that it was reviewed in the New York Post, presumably meaning it was broadcast over there too. I think, in an interview at the time, Patrick McGoohan remarked that it was gentler interpretation of the story than the play and film had been, in relation to the "Hollywood machinations" element. I think he said something about those being 'overly-cynical'......

yep i know the feeling, as a collector of obscure and hard to findfilm star death certificates, i have submitted the cause of death of the lovely actress Lilian Harvey who died in 1968, several times and this has not been added, my other insertions have all been applied, poor Lilian! ;P i hope this will be ammended soon?

I seem to have missed this thread when it was first posted. I've only seen it now that it's been added to which brought it to the top of the list.

I can't do anything too special. I'm just a contributor not a member of the IMDb staff. But I can advise you how to have the best chance of having it added.

Only make sumissions for additions or corrections through their Update interface and the forms. There is an Update button near the bottom of the page for every person and every title.

It's easier to add cast members to a title rather than trying to add a title to someone's filmography.

I presume that Richard Wattis wasn't in the on-screen cast list. If he wasn't then you must add (uncredited) in the Attribute box when you add cast members.

If you have any supporting evidence, then include that as a Miscellaneous Comment (you may have to tick the "Forgotten anything?" box to get the Misc Comment offered). It is always better if you can include some supporting evidence.

The best supporting evidence is a screen grab which shows Wattis and is obviously from the title in question, preferably showing a few of the leading cast members as well.

Then wait a while. Keep an eye on the pages for the titles in question and on the Processing Times page at http://www.imdb.com/czone/times to see if there are any particular holdups.

They don't get thousands of queries and submissions to change data, they get hundreds of thousands every day! If there is any doubt about it and you don't already have a track record with them, then if there's anything wrong or even dubious about what you've submitted then they'll just ignore it. Because they get so many submissions they don't send you any notification saying that your request has been ignored. They send you an email to acknowledge receipt of your request but then they only send a message saying the request has been refused for new titles and some awards data.

I couldn't submit them myself without checking it in the films. I have my own reputation with them to protect :

If you go back to my edited Post (text in purple) you will find that Richard Wattis is credited by imdb for "I Am A Camera".........

Richard Wattis only appears in the original half-hour version of Danger Man, made in 1959. The hour-long Danger Man/Secret Agent series, though excellent in its own right, is a Wattis-free zone.

If he was, they've removed him again.
If you provide them with some proof, like a screen grab, then they can lock him in to prevent other people from removing him
