Aitch,
As much as I'm against people from the entertainment industry receiving honours (I'd rather see people working selflessly in Sierra Leone getting knighthoods) which are largely as a result of survival rather than contributions to public life, I must use my 1000th post to congratulate David Jason on his knighthood.
He's been a key actor in comedy and drama for around forty years and to my mind his performances have always been 100%. I heard him today in the radio comedy Brothers In Law with Richard Briars on BBC7's Listen Again on the Net. He only had a small part but those few lines were delivered so well that it made the episode.
Way back in the 1960s David Jason was involved with members of the Python team before Python was conceived, and despite his obvious comic acting talent he was unfortunately excluded from the eventual Oxbridge Python team.
I didn't particularly like the Delboy character, it was too close to Arthur Daley, but in Porterhouse Blue he was magnificent as the scout Scullion. As an R D Wingfield fan his Frost character was spot on, and in Porridge and The Quest his performances were effortless and very convincing.
So well done Sir David, and a mate of mine who worked as a support artiste on the Batman & Robin OFAH Christmas Special reckons you're an all round really nice bloke as well!

Aitch,
I tell you what chaps, my mincers aren't what they used to be; I thought the title of the thread was:-
Arse Sir David..........
I've always found it strange how DelBoy.........er....sorry I mean David Jason has received so much back patting.
Thaw and Barker were each worth a thousand David Jasons.

I'm sure Sir David would have liked to see Ronnie Barker receive this honour many years ago but it seems his retirement caused him to be overlooked.
John Thaw was a CBE almost 10 years before he died so I'm sure he would have advanced to a knighthood if he'd just lived another 5 years.
