    Googie Withers born in Pakistan.

George Sanders born in St.Petersburg, Russia.

Vivien Leigh born in Darjeeling, India.

I think that many British stars were born overseas because of military and business connections their families had with the Commonwealth.

Olivia de Havilland & Joan Fontaine both born in Japan of British parents; Audrey Hepburn born in Belgium of a British father and a Dutch mother; Elizabeth Taylor born in England of American parents, and Bob Hope born in England of British parents. The problem of deciding what is a British film should be extended to what is a British performer.

    A Welsh father

Or should we just settle on "British"?

He was a railway engineer working in Bombay (as was) in the time of the British Raj
