Ever since catching Mr. Hepton in the BBC productions of le Carre's spy books - Tinker, Tailor and Smiley's People - I have had a soft spot for Mr. Hepton. I have heard him in some BBC Radio productions, too.

I am now puzzled about something to do with him. I believe he had a bit part in The Perfect Storm, that George Clooney movie about some fishermen caught in a big Atlantic Ocean storm. My recollection is that Mr. Hepton played a rich yachtsman caught in the storm and rescued by a Coast Guard ship.

I cannot confirm this - except, I suppose, by re-renting the disk from Netflix. IMDB does not list him in the movie or the movie having him. I wrote them a note to look into it, but no response, yet.

Can anyone else confirm this, or is my brain fried, already?

Any other thoughts about Mr. Hepton welcome, too. I wish he were in more movies. His Toby Esterhaze (sp?) is marvelous - helped, of course, by the wonderful fractured-English dialog of le Carre's book.

The IMDb don't have the staff to do many of that sort of investigation. They might circulate it in case anyone happens to be viewing it.

They are very wary of what they call "Elvis sightings" where an extra or uncredited actor is spotted and thought to be someone famous. Of course some of these turn out to be correct.

Really you're better off doing what you have done, asking in a film forum like this one and seeing if many other people agree with you. If they do then you can just submit it to the IMDb as a fait accompli and see if they have any objection

Bernard Hepton must be a fair age by now, I remember him from the BBC tv series of the 1970s "Colditz" well worth a look if you have not seen it already, Anthony Valentine is also in it as evil SS officer.

How is the painting in the attic Mr B Very interesting list of credits reading your IMDB entry. Much thanks for the news of Bernard Hepton, a firm favourite with many I suspect.

Thanks, Wearysloth, for that pair of pix and for resolving my query. I guess I wasn't so far off, mixing up these two actors by sight alone. And I am glad to hear that Bernard Hepton is alive and well.

I notice that Bernard Hepton's birthday is Oct. 19. I think I will send him a card, c/o his manager.

Well Marky B resolved the query, so I can't take credit for that. I'd completely forgotten Karen Allen was in the film too as well as the underrated Cherry Jones as Gunton's unfortunate passengers.

I just stumbled onto this lengthy interview with Mr. Hepton, recorded in 2006; less about film than stage work, but fascinating nonetheless:
