Dennis Price
Just curious - what with ITV DVD doing all these boxsets of stars like Stewart Granger, Diana Dors etc, which ones would you like to see? Bearing in mind they own the Rank/Gainsborough catalogue... so stars contracted to those studios would be ideal.
My two most wanted are Petula Clark and Margaret Lockwood![]()
JEAN KENT, with a fully restored TROTTIE TRUE....
BELINDA LEE (Secret Place, Miracle in Soho, Nor the Moon by Night)
STANLEY BAKER (Sea Fury, Violent Playground, Blind Date)
I would like to see more of Stanley Baker I havent seen many of the films he was in but somehow I got the impresion that he was underated.
Phyllis Calvert - my choice of five:
Uncensored (1942) (unseen for years - surely this alone would sell the sets?)
The man in grey (1943) (probably obilgatory!)
Men of two worlds (1946)
They were sisters (1945)
Broken journey (1947)
Four out of five would be getting their first dvd release

Stanley Baker is IMHO a British cinema great and is criminally neglected these days. My favourite Baker films ...
Hell Is A City
Prize of Arms
Robbery
Zulu
Hell Drivers
... all of which (except Robbery) are available on DVD.
Bats.

Yes all Phyllis's films should get more of an airing both for sale as dvds or on tv. I think she was a fantastic actress a true professional. "Fanny by Gaslight" should be on the list and "Child in the House" also starring Stanley Baker and the wonderful Eric Portman and lets not forget "2000 Women" and "Madonna of the Seven Moons".
There are so many others but an Eric Portman box set would be great also Leslie Howard and Derrick De Marney (although somehow I don't think he'll ever get one as not considered on the same level as the others shame!) Patricia Roc there's another one.

Was it Dennis Price in 'The Earth Dies Screaming' ? And is this available on DVD ?

Jean Kent, Trottie True of course, also The Man Within (which I don't think has been seen in 60 years), The Loves of Joanna Godden, The Woman in Question, and another missing film which I haven't seen for over 50 years, Before I Wake.
You can occasionally get copies of Violent Playground and Sea Fury off ebay now,...Violent Playground is a particually good film.
I also managed to get hold of a copy of Blind Date, albeit on VHS off TCM's website of all places! That definately deserves a DVD release! Excellent performances all round in that one!
There's a Margaret Lockwood box set due out in June; you can pre-order, probably from Amazon or related site.

Have to agree. Stanley Baker was a genuine talent and deserves far more recognition for the films he did. I have them all on DVD apart from Robbery. It's been bloody ages since I last saw that one. It is a classic and is long overdue a DVD release![]()

This box set commemorates her contribution to cinema with six of her greatest performances including THE LADY VANISHES (1938) the passengers of a trans-European train are forced to stop at a local hotel where one of them disappears; LOVE STORY (1944) a concert pianist with a serious heart problem meets a pilot who is going blind; THE WICKED LADY (1945) a woman steals her cousin’s fiance then embarks on a career of crime; BANK HOLIDAY (1938) follows a series of people enjoying the seaside on a 1930s British Bank Holiday; HIGHLY DANGEROUS (1950) an entomologist is sent to a Communist country to collect specimens for British Intelligence; GIVE US THE MOON (1944) with WWII over and employment booming, a lazy young man refuses to work and joins group of people with similar sensibilities.

What a shame that Cast a Dark Shadow is not included, definitely her best performance. Give Us The Moon and Highly Dangerous are both quite forgettable and certainly not examples of her best work.
Granada don't own CADS, unfortunately.
But they do own several others that could be used instead of those two. I haven't seen them so can't comment.
God knows who puts these things together. Certainly not experts!

Blurb from Optimum:
Lady Godiva Rides Again was an early film for Diana Dors, and typified her position as the British Marilyn Monroe – though the public thought more of Monroe as the American Diana Dors!
It's funny how Diana is thought of as a 'star' of all these films she was in for about 5 minutes.
