Lindsay Duncan for me. I just adore her performance in Poliakoff's Shooting The Pat
Hi.
My vote would definately go to Miranda Richardson (CAN NOT believe she is 50)! She looks amazing!
She is so stylish and versitile as an actress.
I also think Gemma Redgrave does us proud!
Who do you admire?
Fagins girl.

I can't stand Jemma Redgrave, but as this topic is about talented actresses, I would have to agree she's not bad!
I admire Amanda Root very much. She always turns in a convincing preformance, but I'd like to see her given roles that are more demanding; I get the feeling there's a lot more to her than we've seen to date.
I also like Saskia Reeves. The first time I saw her was in "The Bridge" and I would have thought that by now she would be a much "bigger" name. There's not even much about her in her IMDb biography. Does anyone know more?
I concur with that one. She was exquisite.name='Geronimo']Lindsay Duncan for me. I just adore her performance in Poliakoff's Shooting The Pat
Not sure what Poliakoff had against McGoohan though........![]()
Emilia Fox, who was also in Shooting the Past (it wasn't a film about killing postmen, Geronimo!).
Sophie Thompson (who I find looks very much like Amanda Root)
Tilda Swinton
Claire Skinner
Kathy Burke
I wholeheartedly agree about Miranda Richardson.
Kathryn Hunter
Suzanne Bertish
Elizabeth Spriggs
Maggie Steed
Juliet Stevenson
Imelda Staunton
Helen Mirren
Judi Dench
Sarah Parish
Just for starters.

Fagins girl.
That's because 50 is the new 30 - and I should know, faginsgirl, because I'm nearly 53.
I think Maggie Smith is fantastic.
YDSL x.
I guess someone had to sound a dissenting voice re: Miranda Richardson and it seems to be me - sorry, but apart from Queenie in Blackadder and her portrayal of Ruth Ellis I find her almost unbearably irriitating and incredibly mannered, even more so than Julie Walters and that's saying something! Of the others mentioned above. I especially concur about Juliet Stephenson and Imelda Staunton ( and for a parallel thread for male actors I would nominate the latter's hubby Jim Carter ). To the female list I would also add Annette Crosbie, Eileen Atkins, Geraldine James and Amanda Redman.
I'm glad 50 is the new 30 ( although I wish someone had told me last year! ). Does that mean I can look forward to 60 being the new 40 in due course? It might sweeten the pill a bit when the time comes......:-)
I agree about most of those already listed but would like to add Julia Sawalha to the list.
From a brilliant start in Press Gang, though Ab Fab and Jonathan Creek, Time Gentlemen Please and Faith in the Future, Martin Chuzzlewit and Pride and Prejudice she's never given a bad performance. And now in Lark Rise to Candleford she's giving another great performance.

Samantha Bond. Our best actress under 50.
Bats.
Kate Winslet
Imelda Staunton (the look of shock combined with fear when the Police called at her home in Vera Drake was mesmerising)
Keeley Hawes
Ella Kenyon (well-built Lady who has appeared in Catherine Tate show as many characters (usually blond) and Green, green grass as well as Car insurance advert)
Harriet Walter and Vanessa Redgrave need adding to the list.
As for the under 50s (or the under new 30s as the Dame has it) I'd nominate Anna Maxwell Martin - excellent in Bleak House and I saw her in the West End as Sally Bowles in Cabaret last year - she was absolutely superb.
I'd also put in a shout for Helena Bonham Carter - she's getting more and more interesting the older she gets...
