The only film I've ever seen him in is The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins which I rather enjoyed.

Although Anna Pavlova sounds intriguing - featuring Brucie, Roy Kinnear, James Fox and Martin Scorcese and with Michael Powell involved in the production and editing! Quite a mix...

I've noticed that one - sounds interesting. He was very nearly Fagin in Oliver and nearly got the David Niven part in Candleshoe.

There's something about Brucie that makes you wanna like him - he can even get away with "carrying" his longtime unofficial partner - the famous rug. Forsyth is a true all round entertainer from the old school ; though a lot of people probably haven't really seen that side of him and just regard him as a game show host. He has a great deal of easy charm and radiates a kind of genial good nature. He has a way of relaxing contestants and Joe Public. Maybe it's the way that he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously that unlocks the bad vibes...

    Either way Happy Birthday Brucie.

PS - They should preserve the chin when he has his final dance...

Although Brucie, Roy Kinnear, James Fox & Martin Scorsese are all only in it very briefly. Blink and you miss 'em

And Michael Powell's involvement was very limited as the "Western version supervisor" he was really just responsible for the dubbing into English. He was given the job as a favour to him by some friends because it was during his "poor and all but forgotten" phase

But despite all of that, it is a quite well made film and tells an interesting story. At least the lead was a dancer who acted a bit rather than an actress who danced a bit

Bruce did a TV show once, many moons ago, with Kenny Lynch. It was absolutely brilliant. I don't suppose it exists anymore. Wasn't it in the Seventies that Brucie tried really hard to become a variety star in his own right? Spent loads of his own money doing Vegas and such-like?

He had to settle for being a TV Host through gritted teeth......

He's also a bit of an archivist I've read; saved more than one TV recording from oblivion............

wonder if he's got that Kenny Lynch one......

I'm looking forward to his show that's being televised tomorrow night.

    ........ Mr. Forsyth

When I was young I hated him because he was Mr ITV, a sort of cheap and nasty version of those shiny suited entertainers who used to appear live in Las Vegas with links to The Mafia. In recent years though I look forward to seeing him on television, because compared to modern presenters he's got bags of talent and a very likeable personality!

Considering that he married Miss World 1975 and claimed to have had an affair with another Miss World, I should say he has done very well indeed

I like him. He did very well on the Jonathan Ross Show, even Hollywood star Forest Whitaker was bowled over by him (mind,Forest came over as a likeable person)and as Sam said,he has bags of talent and personality. I think serving an apprenticeship in the variety halls gives them a more competitive edge. Don't forget he played Julie Andrews' father in Star. Happy birthday (Sir) Bruce.

Also any criticism and mickey taking that has been aimed at him over many years he's been gracious enough to take it on the chin!

One of my old college friends makes a living doing specialist painting and decorating effects in private houses, marbling rag rolling etc and he is usually working in the houses of the super rich in Surrey and affluent areas of London. He told me his best job was decorating Bruce Forsythe's kitchen at his house in Wentworth. There were a few builders in the house and Brucie personnaly made them endless cups of tea and biscuits and generally distracted them with friendly chat and funny quips, my chum said Bruce was a brilliant guy, totally down to earth and genuine and had them laughing all day long, he certainly appears that way on TV and made a very entertaining appearance on Jonathan Ross this weekend.

As with most areas of entertainment these days, it would appear that 21st century "stars" are little more than watered down and characterless pale imitatations of those who went before!

Worth 50p I reckon, with an accumulator on Ricky, when he gets to 75 and is Chief Rodent of the Grand Order of Water Rats.
