I know I am about to sink in everyones estimation when I say this, but I actually find Mr Grant very watchable and good at what he does.
what a load of rubbish to say this is the best ever brit. film. They must have asked the under 20s. How can they say its better than films like Ice Cold in Alex.![]()

Hmmm, never over-estimate the discernment of the general public.
They'll always go for the blandest thning on the menu.

I agree with both those sentiments - apart from 'An awfully big adventure' in Mr Grant's case and 'The Truman show' in Mr Carrey's.
Hugh Grant as Chopin?
Strangely it worked in Impromptu (1991).
No floppy hair, no scuffing feet. Could Hugh have been a real actor if he hadn't been sucked into RomCom hell?
Judy Davis is fab, Julian Sands is a beautiful plank of wood and Mandy Patinkin, Emma Thompson and Bernadette Peters are as reliable as ever. Could have used Ralph Brown a bit more though.
Just like Stewart Granger playing Paganini! (The Magic Bow.)
Gary Oldman as Beethoven.
Although, the film was heavy going!
Haven't seen Impromptu since it came out in the cinema. Enjoyed it then and wouldn't mind seeing it again. I also enjoyed Hugh Grant as Byron in the odd, but fascinating Rowing With the Wind.Originally Posted by Wicked Lady
But if it's heavy going you want there can nothing to match Richard Burton as Wagner - 9 hours of it. I watched it over a weekend and came out feeling all peculiar... Still enjoyed it though!
Hugh as Chopin was certainly no worse than when Cornel Wilde played the role in A Song to Remember. I quite enjoyed Impromptu. Grant also showed he can act in An Awfully Big Adventure. Song Without End with Dirk Bogarde as Liszt is also worth a look. It's pretty cheesy but enjoyable enough.

I'm not surprised you felt peculiar. I'm impressed you recovered as all!
Not only is he one of the most effective investigative journalists of our age, he has now become a doting daddy. The Guardian hasn't got comments open, but the paper where I first saw this news (The Mail?) did have, and a lot of people were saying "You won't be able to forget about this relationship, Hugh!" "This time you won't be able to run away, Hugh!" "You're going to have to be more responsible now, Hugh!" etc., as if there are no cases of anyone ignoring the fact that they've got kids. Hugh Grant is definitely one of those actors that everybody thinks they know.
I think I've said it before, but I thought he was good in About A Boy - probably the closest he's come to parenthood until now.

Possibly closeest he'll get even after finally passing his genes on. He savours his privacy so much of course that we will never the true course of his private comings and goings.
It does seem to explain why he became SO twitchy about the news of the screws a while back though............![]()
