A screen shot would help, if you can do one...
Who was the British support actor who played the escapologist in Michael Bentine's "The Sandwich Man" (1966)? The IMDb has it down as Peter Jones, but Jones (from "The Rag Trade") is merely his assistant, the man passing round the hat - who is the man tied in the sack? (who goes on to help a blind man cross the road - one of the few gags that actually worked in the film for me).
He was ubiquitous in the 1960s - specialising in devious roles, creepy characters, menacing phone callers, with an unsettling smile - I'm sure he was a regular fixture in things like "Armchair Theatre", "The Avengers" and "Tales of Mystery & Imagination"
I can see his face now - I just can't put a name to it...

Yes yes yes - it's Aubrey Morris! I confirmed this when I eventually located a small picture of him on the Avengers site The Avengers Forever: Aubrey Morris
that's definitely the man (and he takes the part of "Cedric" in Bentine's otherwise lamentable "The Sandwich Man" btw). Many thanks for all your help/replies.
The man is still alive and working in 2008, according to the IMDb - and we shall be celebrating by watching him tonight in McGoohan's "Dance of The Dead" Prisoner episode (as "The Town Crier")
