Thank you to Cornershop! I must admit I haven't visited here for a while but it's good to know that you will still post any new Gerry articles you come across.

Thank you for your lovely post, Sergio! I'm glad you found this thread and know that you are not alone in wishing to remember Gerry's life and work. I hope you have visited the Facebook site too - you're very welcome!

    Hi Everyone,

It may seem strange how I get here. My name is Sergio I live in MedellĂ*n, Colombia, South America. First I want to apologize if I have some errors in my writing. I recently started to watch some BBC dramas based on novels by Charles Dickens. I just love how he writes! I liked specially “Great Expectations” in which Gerry played Pip. Because I liked how Gerry worked in this drama I asked myself what happened to this actor. I thought that he had become a famous artist because I thought he had all to be one: his acting was natural and believable and his presence was impacting. I was really sad when I found in Internet that he had committed suicide. I could never think that he could do that. I mean, apparently he had all to be a successful person.

Drugs are something really bad. As I told you I live in Colombia one of the biggest drug producers in the world. What is ironic is that no one has offered to me drugs in my life. I only have seen some people smoking marihuana, but cocaine, heroine, etc only exist for me in TV and in the movies. Drugs have produced violence in Colombia and have relaxed some people’s principles and values due to the fast money that they offer.

I am very happy to find this group of Gerry’s fans. I just want to thank you all, especially the people that have opened blogs and web pages to honor Gerry. I wish that he is now resting in peace with God in heaven.

    Sincerely,

    Sergio.

Don’t Open Till Christmas is getting an authorised US DVD release in December, it has already had a DVD release in the UK a few years ago and there have been a few unauthorised DVD releases in the states (if was considered a ‘public domain’ title for a while) however this release boasts a “Brand new anamorphic transfer from original negative” so is likely to be a big improvement-PQ wise- on its previous DVD incarnations.

How odd. I was just thinking this morning that Gerry's thread has had no traffic since most of his admirers here decamped to Facebook!

Don't Open Till Christmas is a terrible film though - probably worth seeing once just to digest how bad it is :)
