You can feel the anguish as he sees such inept phone-handling. How he must long to snatch the instrument away and show Mr Stevens the correct way to use it.
Two more captures from the Man of the World episode Portrait of a Girl (1962) starring the charisma free Craig Stevens. In the second shot Colin looks on while the phone is once again so near yet so far.

Colin in a rare minus specs performance as a slightly sloshed reporter in The Long Dark Hall (1950).

And not a phone in sightNo wonder he took to the bottle.
An unused NtF screencap I took from Don't Bother to Knock. I think Colin has just realised his desk is phoneless...

He seems to have got his life-savings from under the bed in order to rectify that lack without delay.
Always the gentleman, in Keep it Clean, Colin allows his lady-friend some fine telephone action while he encourages from the side

Colin Gordon Dept S.jpg
I always love an appearance by Colin Gordon. Here's a nice shot (sans telephone, regrettably, but pretty cool specs nonetheless) from Dept S. He would have been 100 years old next month.

I bet he thought he was the kid who had got the keys to the sweet shop when he joined The Prisoner and got to use the phones there?
No wonder he did two episodes![]()

Count Colin with his trusty man-servant Niall MacGinnis from Devils Agent (1962) starring Peter van Eyck.

Colin Gordon in 'John and Julie' (1955)
Colin strikes a dubious pose as he lets it all hang out while organising a search for Julie (Lesley Dudley):
I'm not sure but the embarassed (or maybe intrigued?) lad with him might be 'Youth Club Boy' Paul Chapman.
They're part of the crowd who are willing to sleep rough for the night just to get a glimpse of the Queen on
Coronation Day. A fight ensues between those looking for John and the others Julie, which pleases Swayne:
This is just after Colin trips up one of the 'rival' group, who was probably on his way to the telephone box.
'Sir' Colin in The Extra Day (1956).
Gererously permitting Richard Basehart the use of his instument.
Perhaps inspiring Ken Dodd?
Gazing on (and perhaps glazing over) as we endure yet another number from Dennis Lotis.

Fantastic shots there - you don't get such skilled feather-duster work from today's thesps.
Some months have passed since Colin's works were visited alas. Just a very brief appearance here as a reporter in The Winslow Boy (1948), nice to see his bow get another outing though.

Sadly for Colin, I think the Winslows had probably had their phone cut off by this point![]()
Colin in flamboyant mode as photographer Cecil Flick in A Touch of the Sun (Michael Ward must have been busy that week)

We have left Colin's thread untended too long!
In Bitter Harvest from 1963 Colin gets to accompany Janet Munro to a theatrical party. All is well though as he has spotted the telephonic facilities...

Here is a rather "camp" Colin in Please Turn Over.

Well, hurrah for Colin's thread being revived
As the employer of The Baron, Colin scorns telephones in favour of a natty little hairbrush/transistor radio combo. Boo to the smoking though - not normally Colin's style
