I have always assumed it was Jonathan King's voice on the song Johnny Reggae even though it does sound female.

    According to King.......

The group never appeared (there was none) and we did a series of cartoons by Jack Oliver which were used as a makeshift video with me as Johnny Reggae (as on the sheet music)...

They were three session singers and Barbara Kay did the lead (Mavis).

As they were in their 40's I made them sound like 15 year old scrubbers behind the bike shed.

The multi track had them all collapsing with laughter at the end of the session, shrieking "I can't believe I just did that" and other expressions!

I have the followup to JOHNNY REGGAE, the extremely dubious 'Baby Reggae', on a RPM/Cherry Red compilation called 'Bubble Pop', put together by me old mate Phil King (no relation). The songs are all taken from releases on Jonathan King's UK label, and include some real gems from the likes of Simon Turner (also an actor), Ricky Wilde, Del, Brendan and Tractor.

Obviously, since King's arrest (his culpability for which varies depending on who you talk to) the idea of him signing teenage boys to his record label is somewhat suspect, as are some of the songtitles, such as 'We Ran And We Ran' 'Red Alert' 'Shoeshine Boy' 'Rubatummy' and 'You Gotta Have It Sometime'. As is 'Baby Reggae' itself (the tale of Johnny's infant son), which features King's voice (definitely NOT Adrienne Posta) slowed down to a frightening baritone, and delights in the refrain "Reggae reggae reggae, here comes baby reggae, baby reggae reggae giggle for me.." Gulp.

No, I am not making this up. I think, by default or by design, King managed to concoct the most disturbing, annoying, dreadful and just plain WRONG (on so many levels) single of all time. Which is actually a shame, as many of the other artists on the comp are actually rather passable.

And he can't pronounce 'reggae' either- it seems to come out as 'reggy', which rhymes in a very worrying way with 'eggy' and 'smeggy' (not in the song, just in my warped mind)

The lovely Ms P "looks her age" in the photo, which is surprising, considering how great she looks on her agent's details. I guess it catches up with us all eventually. But if anyone sees her, please don't tell her I said that- I admire her greatly and hope to interview her for a magazine sometime.

    FromTVTimes, 28th February 1966 - the day before Adrienne's 18th birthday:

She was billed as Adrienne Poster throughout this series.

Adrienne, in the role of Judy, has to thwart The Master from his maniacal ambition to rule the world.

Yes, that's really her! Lots of great and interesting names in the cast - John Laurie, George Baker, John ("What's to become of us?") Woodnutt and Richard Vernon, who played her father I think. One of the "interesting" names for me is Paul Guess, who later appeared in a few episodes of Follyfoot.

Adrienne's next appearance on screen was in Here Where Go Round The Mulberry Bush.

Lovely, bubbly, sexy actress who always gave a good performance!

Unfortunately, in later life she came to look very like my sister in law and I rather went off her...

TVTimes Interview for 21-27 October 1962 issue

It's nice to be back at this thread again, almost two years after the last couple of posts. I will continue from where I left off, with another TVTimes article, but this one's even more special as it is a great interview. Adrienne (Poster in those days) was 13 at this time and had already worked with Anna Neagle, Edith Evans and, most surprisingly of all, comedy duo Jewell and Warriss towards the end of their partnership.

This was in a short-lived sitcom called It's a Living, co-starring Lance Percival and Fanny Carby. The third episode aired that week and guest starred Wallas Eaton and my one-time neighbour (apparently) Frederick Schiller. Sorry to reveal that, like The Master, all the episodes are lost. Fascinating reading, nonetheless:

TVTimes interview for 26th July-1st August 1975 issue

Another TVTimes interview! Adrienne got her wish with a return to Moody and Pegg, in the episode Roland's Ladies:

Roland (Moody) was played by Derek Waring. Looking at the cast, I think Maureen Sweeney and Seretta Wilson were two of the other 'Ladies'. Surely to the chagrin of girlfriend Daphne Pegg (Judy Cornwell)? I should have bought this series by now. Current prices at Amazon: Series 1 - £9.97; Series 2 - £11.99.

Also in that episode was the ubiquitous Kevin Brennan, my next subject at 'Where Did We See Them First?'. In Adrienne's case, I think it might have been Up the Junction (1986 showing on Channel 4). I have dim memories of her as one of the contestants on Give Us a Clue, 1988-91.

Ah no, Daphne Pegg wasn't Roland's girlfriend, she was his reluctant flatmate turned platonic friend. They did have a bit of a frolic one wet Sunday afternoon, when Daphne dressed up as Dietrich and Roland as Howard Keel (you MUST buy the DVD) but nothing actually happened. The final scene of the series is beautifully played by both actors. Brilliant show.

Clearly, eating all those chips has done Adrienne no harm at all...

    Gorgeous in her heyday

Cornershop's screencap of her at post #15 is prettiness almost to the point of perfection. You'd have a long long search through the internet before you'd find a face so lovely (unless you instantly googled "Carol Hawkins" of course*).

Adrienne was one of the schoolgirls in "To Sir With Love" but I remember her best as the gorgeous "Scrubba" in "Up Pompeii!"

Can't recall the last time I saw her on the small screen but it was ages ago - an episode of "Minder" I think?

I understood she'd gone on to make a lot of money from corporate/voice over work.

    * I've just remembered both these beauties were in "Carry On Behind" - although to my dismay I don't think they shared any scenes.

Didn't Adrienne appear with Lulu every week in the latter's tv show in the seventies? I think they did comedy sketches and sang duets.
This is Adrienne's voice over showreel.http://www.voicebankltd.co.uk/voices...osta-animation

Only dim memories? Surely you can't have forgotten her mime for The New York Mining Disaster 1941.

I notice there was a recently shot interview with her in that documentary on Lulu that was on BBC2 last night.

What is it about British sitcoms and platonic relationships? Man About the House instantly comes to mind, and the much later Game On, wheras Eric Sykes decided Hattie Jacques should be his sister rather than his wife. There must be lots of others. The Moody and Pegg DVDs will make a nice Christmas present, hopefully as part of a Network sale.

Thanks to Alan for the Give Us a Clue screencap and to Tonch for inspiring me to do more from Adrienne's episode of Budgie. I've had four captures stored at Photobucket for weeks - including an improved version of the one you mentioned, and the second image here - but again ran into 'description difficulties'. I'll have another go before Christmas.

I watched Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush recently and was struck by her bored expression in the chip shop scene:

It reminded me of this moment in Budgie. She's equally fed-up here, so resorts to 'comfort eating' (crisps rather than chips):

I enhanced the grainy black-and-white image as best I could. You'd never guess this was four years later.

Loved her in "Up the Junction". If my memory serves me correct she played "Rube" but I could be wrong. She went to the same school as Mrs cassidy.

She nearly got to be the replacement Goldie Hawn in the 'Rowan & Martin' later series in the States, but apparently did not want to commit to the obvious travel problems after just marrying her rock musician husband.

I always remembered her from a show about a Jewish boy growing to manhood. It spawned a minor pop hit I think.

1962 does seem to be the year she became a Poster girl though...
