David Suchet as Krivas, the leader of a "highly trained group of professional killers" (!) in an episode of The Professionals.
I've seen a couple of programmes recently which featured actors playing a role completely different from those with which they are most associated. The examples I saw were...
Trigger from Only Fools as an international assassin in an episode of The Professionals.
Rene from 'Allo 'Allo as the hired muscle of a dodgy bookmaker in Minder (he didn't come off too well in the inevitable punch-up with Terry).
Any more examples?

A role he repeated in Executive Decision in which he was a terrorist who took over a plane.
Bryan Mosley (Alf Roberts of Coronation St) playing a hardcase gangster in
Get Carter!
There was a Richard Todd/ Peter Sellers movie called Never Let Go where the actors swaped the roles they were originally cast for - Sellers played the heavy, Todd played the put-upon cosmetic salesman.
It was an interesting film. The trouble was: Richard Todd was so fiendishly handsome, it was difficult to believe he wasn't the top salesman in London. Who wouldn't buy their lippy off Guy Gibson?![]()
Sellers on the other hand was suitably sinister.
Worth seeing, if you can find it.
Vas Blackwood - Had a part in an early episode of Only Fools And Horses.
Cast as a super hard head case gangster in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Totally, utterly unconvincing.
I always thought that the late great Ian Hendry was miscast in "nasty" roles. He was too sweet and pretty to be in such. A gentle man in real life I believe. I always got the impression he was insecure and out of his depth. A lovable much-missed man.
Karl Howman who usually plays cheeky chappy's played a nasty in 'Minder On The Orient Express'.
Sir Ben Kingsley in "Sexy Beast" - or has that now become the role for which he is most famous?
Either way, its possibly my most favourite ever occurance of where an actor has been totally transformed into the character. A masterclass!
Richard Burton was miscast as Henry VIII in "A man for all seasons"
Richard Burton as a Ronnie Kray-style gangster in 'Villain'. There were some good scenes, but very often his harsh cockney accent would sound Hylda Bakerish!

wasn't it Robert Shaw? Maybe you mean" Anne of a Thousand Days"!

Yep, my ajolopies. Always get the two movies mixed up but both superb productions.

Apparently they decided to make Richard Todd a bit taller to bring him up to Sellers' height and put 'lifts' in his shoes. Sellers' took exception to this and secretly did the same to his own shoes prompting David Lodge, playing Sellers' henchman to do the same. Thus all three of them actually 'grew' during the course of the film![]()
Doris Day in Midnight Lace and Judy, she didnt like making the one with Rex Harrison, as she found it very upsetting and thought the crying scenes made her look ugly, it really upset her. even to the point of being ill while filming.
Harry Andrews in "Entertaining Mr Sloane". Quite odd to see the military straight type Andrews as a camp character. Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve as gay lovers in the film "Deathtrap" is not entirley convincing, "Jack Carter snogs Superman" should have been the tagline.![]()

Dear Lord! That's hilarious!
I can just see them all thumping about in platforms by the final reel.
I heard a similar story about Joan Crawford's bosoms in Whatever Happened To Baby Jane. But that's another story.....
Kathy Burke as Mary Tudor in `Elizabeth' and Pete Postlethwaite as the Japanese Lawyer in `The Usual Suspects'.
Oh Dear Christopher 404 Harry Andrews incongruous casting in Entertaining Mr Sloane, who would you suggest John Inman or Dale Winton ?
By the way Harry Andrews was gay.
Enid Bagnold hated Ralph Richardson as he insisted on swapping roles with John Gielgud in the first run of one of her plays. Apparently JG goodnaturedly agreed but Enid B never forgave Richardson for, as she saw it, ruining her play.
