He played Chef on South Park and sang "Salty Balls" which was quite a big hit

He was only meant to be in one episode but was so popular he became a regular. But then he left objecting to the way they took the mickey out of Scientologists (he was one)

One of the soul giants has gone. Will always love the music from Shaft especially the Shaft rip from the begining whilst walking down Times Square.

    RIP great man.....so sadly missed.

Sorry to hear about this, I have never got around to buying any of his stuff apart from a duets album he recorded with Dionne Warwicke.

His cover of Walk on By from 1969 is truly amazing.

As is (in another way) his go at By the Time I Get to Phoenix, which at nearly 19 minutes long had wags saying that by the time he finished the song you probably could actually get to Phoenix
