Off the top of your head, as I am doing now, and without checking the Internet, how many entertainers can you come up with who died in plane crashes? This excludes the like of Emilia Erhart (I didn't check out the spelling), a celebrity, certainly, but not an entertainer.

    Will Rogers (1930s)

    Carole Lombard (1942)

    Leslie Howard (1943, I think)

Robert Francis (young, 25, starred in The Caine Mutiny and a handful of other films)

    Patsy Kline (1963)

    Ricky Nelson (1985)

There must be others that I am overlooking. No prizes given for the most answers, though.

Unless my memory is failing me (probable) -

    John Denver

Those guys from Lynyrd Skynyrd, the names escape me... Van Zandt??

    Glen Miller (most likely)

    Buddy Holly

    Richie Valens

that's all musicians though, not actors - but still entertainers depending on your musical tastes!

Do you want to include cameramen, or only those that stand in front of the camera?

Skeets Kelly was killed in a helicopter crash while he was filming aerial footage for Zeppelin (1971).

Steve, I was thinking of actors and singers. I don't know how I could have forgotten Glenn Miller and Buddy Holly--probably the reason I wanted some help with my memory--I have to keep it lubricated.

I feel that's a bit unfair. We wouldn't know about most actors if it wasn't for those that work behind the camera. And some of those people behind the camera have died in the cause of duty, trying to bring entertainment to us.

Stuntman Paul Mantz was killed when a plane stunt went wrong during the making of the original Flight of the Phoenix.

Director Wiliam Girdler (Grizzly, The Manitou) was killed when his helicopter crashed during a location scout for his next film.

How could you forget WW2 and western star Audie Murphy.

Actor Vic Morrow and two young children when, during a stunt, a helicopter crashed on top of them while making The Twilight Zone.

There's a remarkable coincidence concerning Vic Morrow, in that the year before his death the director Boris Sagal died after walking into the rotor blade of a helicopter. Sagal directed the pilot episode of Combat, the TV series that made Morrow a star.

I had to look that one up, but off the top of my head: the singer/actress Grace Moore died in a plane crash. The violinist Ginette Niveu and boxer Marcel Cerdan died in a plane crash (the same one). Eve Meyer, who was once the wife of Russ Meyer and appeared in some of his movies, died in that huge two plane crash off Tenerife in the 1970s. Berry Berenson, sister of Marisa, granddaughter of Benard and widow of Anthony Perkins, was in one of the planes that crashed into the WTC on Sept 11. Albert Lamorrise died in a copter crash.

Skynyrd was lead singer Ronnie Van Zandt, Guitarist Steve Gaines & his sister, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines - a sad loss.

The rest of the survivors were all pretty busted up too!

Drummer Artimus Pyle claimed farmer Johnny Mote shot him in the shoulder- well it was Mississippi swamp land.........

Mote always denied it and when drumming 'Topless' on stage - no signs of gunshot wounds can be seen, so I'm told.................

I was very shocked and saddened when she was killed. A beautiful R n B singer with a great voice.

As I remember, the plane she was in was overloaded with people and luggage

, due to people rushing back to the US for Thanksgiving. It took off and then lost altitude, before crashing into a woodland.

In the documentary about her, I remember a close friend of hers on a music video set said that she took the last picture of her as she was sleeping. Brought a tear to my eye.

Is "off the top of my head" the best expression to use after talking about people walking into helicopter rotor blades?
