    He's not very Canadian. He was born in Yorkshire. His family moved to Canada when he was very small. But only for a few years. I can't see any sign that he became Canadian

    There is a Canadian footballer called Tom Wilkinson.

    I think that's where the confusion comes from (especially since actor-Tom did live for a few years there as a child).

    Our Tom is a Brit.

    Don't forget Doulas Fairbanks, Jr., who never pretended to be English, but looked and sounded more British than a Londoner-born, and most people would have thought, listening to him, that he was English. His prejudices were very pro-British.

    Read the thread

    name='Steve Crook']

    Leslie Howard was born in London to Hungarian parents

    We try not to mention Dick Van Dyke's impersonation of a cockney

    I think it is becoming clear that there are in fact no English actors.

    All English people are in fact from somewhere else.

    England, whose England?

    I love articles like that where they pose a problem that nobody's concerned about and then ignore all the obvious answers to the questions they pose

    Still, I suppose that writing articles like that keeps them from doing any damage

    Audrey Hepburn was Belgium born, but had a British father.

    Olivia De Havilland and sister Joan Fontaine were born in Japan of British parents, but lived most of their lives in the U.S

    Vivien Leigh and Cliff Richard were born in India

    The encouragement of Country Dancing is hardly 'not doing any damage'. This sort of behaviour should be stamped upon.
