Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh in Fire Over England.
I nominate Joan Fontaine and Louis Jourdan in 1948's Letter from an Unknown Woman.
Secondly, Jessica Alba and Hugh Dancy in The Sleeping Dictionary. This was the first time I had seen either of these young actors and was most impressed. I later caught Dancy in Daniel Deronda and I also liked the blonde girl (can't remember her name--not quite as good looking as Ms. Fontaine, however).

I guess in order to get June Duprez in The Thief of Bagdad, I would have had to have mentioned John Justin, and I'm not sure about him.

They're both very pretty
And they do have that lovely exchange when they meet:
Princess: Where do you come from?
Ahmad: From the beginning of Time.
Princess: How long have you been looking for me?
Ahmad: Since the beginning of Time.
Princess: Now that you've found me, how long will you stay?
Ahmad: To the end of Time.

How do you define 'beautiful'?
I admit on the face of it, Laughton and Lanchester aren't the most beautiful of couples and maybe I shouldn't have put them on this thread. However, I still thought them an engaging romantic couple in their movies together. I also think Lanchester could look attractive, like at the end of VOW

I agree Stuart. That's why I included the still from BOF, EL looks great as The Bride and their few moments together quite beautiful in the way that The Monster looks at her as if she is a thing of classical beauty, only to have his hopes dashed, a fate suffered by many admirers of 'beautiful' women. Beauty is subjective and you can post whatever you like in a thread as long as you are not trying to deliberately offend or abuse others. I think CL and EL were a good call.![]()
Philippe Noiret and Romy Schneider in "Le Vieux Fusil" by R.Enrico
Danielle Darieu and James Mason in "Five Fingers"
Laura Dern and Sam Neil in "Jurassic Park"
I'd like to add Romy Schneider and Alain Delon. I know they had a long-running affair, but can't remember if they starred together.
