He was well known in our house because my brother loved The Early Bird. He was probably around the BBC studios a lot so was roped in to do a show. EC was filming The Onedin Line at the time, which was his last role.Originally Posted by bhowells
Edward Chapman turned up as a guest in the third series of the BBC's Morecambe and Wise show which I recently bought on video. On the face of it Edward Chapman was a strange choice to be a guest of Eric and Ernie as he wasnt a household name per se, having said that he proved to be an excellent guest playing opposite Ernie in drag in one of the plays what he wrote.

He is now probably best known for his work with Norman Wisdom, usually as Mr Grimsdale, in 5 films between 1957 and 1965.Originally Posted by bhowells
But he had done loads of films before he became Mr Grimsdale.
He made a great Church elder complaining about the tarts in Gone to Earth (1950)
Steve
He seems to turn up a lot in the name that film thread, most recently in The Proud Valley
An interesting man and actor. He starred in an early TV film, I directed, the Payoff.
John
Was the sinister Mr. Peachy playing opposite John Mills in The October Man.

Edward Chapman also played the father of Anna Neagle's Amy Johnson in They Flew Alone. I liked him in The Proud Valley

An excellent Marquis of Queensbury in Oscar Wilde
