It made me want to rub salt into my eyes and set fire to my seat, just to leave the cinema.
Connery is Bond. End of argument.
I admit, I was enjoying Brosnan's tenure in the tux. You could tell he loved the role and was clearly disappointed to have it taken away just when his darker side was coming out.
Goldeneye was one of the better Bond movies of the last 20 years for me. Big master-criminal lair, bombs, satellites and a bloody gorgeous laydeee sidekick. What more could you want? Apart from a bad guy returning from the Living Daylights to play Leiters 21st century replacement, the film was a good addition to the series.
Dalton looked as if the role caused him pain and suffering. He simply didn't get it.
Rumour at the moment that Daniel Craig may not make the next 2 movies of his 4 film contract, which asks the question, who next? Clive Owen?

name='smudge']Sorry, but Sean C was TERRIBLE in THE AVENGERS. He must have realised what a travesty it was and given up from day 1 !!

Are you forgetting his fine performances in The Man Who Would Be King, Robin and Marion, Five Days One Summer and The Name of the Rose? Not to mention his very funny comic turns as Indiana Jones' dad and Agamemnon in Time Bandits.

Good God, I hadn't heard that one. Can you send us any links to these rumours? Clive Owen is a terrific actor, but he's now too old for the part, and I never really could see him in the role, even when everyone was convinced he's get the gig.
If Craig has a four film contract Eon would never let him out of it ..... and think how much money that lawsuit would involve!
I think this rumour may have started from an article in a newspaper in which a writer said that he felt Craig should quit after two films 'while the going was good'.
From the Guardian ...
"MGM chairman Harry Sloan revealed this week that Daniel Craig has signed up for four more Bond films, in a deal reported to net the actor £30m. It's a move that makes good movie business sense. The actor's first outing as James Bond, Casino Royale, took more on its first day that any other 007 film and revitalised the franchise."
name='jaycad']i thought the worst bond was timothy dalton! as for roger moores credentials-ask alan partridge!
Why do so few Bond fans like Timothy Dalton. I think that Licence To Kill is one of the best of the whole series.
Try reading one of the Bond books - they are not comedies. Roger Moore was horribly miscast as Ian Flemming's hero.

I like Dalton and much prefer him to Brosnan.![]()
It seemed to me that he had difficulty managing the trademark James Bond "quips" that had become such an important part of the character. That aside, I always considered him a vastly underrated Bond and second only to The Mighty Connery.

I liked Timothy Daltonl. I think with taking over from Our Rog,we had got used to the quips that RM delivered, and thus Dalton - IMHO - was bit uneven with them. He reinvented 007 from the laid back style of RM,and it was a pity he didn't stick it out. However,I do believe Licence To Kill was not a financial success and so causing a hiatus in production.
Sir Sean Connery will always be the best Bond as he was the first, and that opinion would have remained if RM got the job first,or Patrick McGoohan. Now,I don't compare them. I might have been unfair on George Lazenby in the past as he only made the one and didn't have to time to explore his character more.
Daniel Craig is excellent and apt for the direction that the 007 franchise is going.
BTW,Our Rog was on the Steve Wright Show this afternoon, and they were discussing The Man Who Haunted Himself and Rog pointed out there was a scene involving a spot on the M4 and later on - long after the film was made - Basil Dearden was killed on the same spot in a car accident. Has anyone else heard this?

Yes, it's quite a well known story. Sir Roger mentions it in his autobiography and mentioned it at the NT last week as well as talking about it on the DVD commentary for the film which, incidentally, he said is the only film in which he's been allowed to act.

It wasn't that long afterwards. The Man Who Haunted Himself was released in the UK in 1970 and Basil Dearden was killed in March 1971
But was it the M4 or the A40? I thought that Pelham's accident was on an A road

All I can recall is that Rog said the M4 on the radio!

He might well have done. But old geezers, even knighted ones, do get confused
The next time someone watches the film can they check to see if the accident is on a motorway or an A road?
I asked because the Wikipedia entryy for the film says "Shortly after the film's release, the film's director Basil Dearden died in a horrific car crash on the A40 near the spot where the character Harold Pelham is supposed to have crashed his car in the opening scenes of the film."
Steve
It appears to be a combination of both. Pelham is seen on the A4 where it becomes the M4 but as he is 'possessed' and accelerates, there are some rear shots which are clearly shot elsewhere (no lane markings or central reservation lighting as seen from the front, lack of traffic on the opposite carriageway and the vehicles in front conveniently evenly spaced out) which would appear to be the M40 as it was under construction at that time. So the accident was filmed on the M40 but was set on the M4. Sorry I can't post any screen grabs but I bought the R1 version so it won't play on this laptop.

Thanks for that.
If you use a player like the VLC Media Player then that ignores any region lock-outs that the Micro$oft player does and you can change regions as often as you like

Thanks Steve, that's exactly what I do use so I'll have a go when I get home tonight.
