As many of Britmovie members do (must) know Bertand Tavernier as the first foreign interviewer of Michael Powell, he is also a grand director, much inspirated. Philippe Noiret (who passed away two years ago) was his "alter ego" in films, two hedonist they were, and they did marvelous films together : "L'Horloger de Saint Paul" (from Simenon), "Le Juge et l'Assassin" (with an amazing Michel Galabru), "Que La Fête Commence" (where M.Powell might have been appearing !), "Coup de Torchon" (where he was dressed like Mitchum in "El Dorado"), and "La Vie et Rien d'Autre" with a sublime Sabine Azéma, where he was a doubting officer of WWI.

He also played in:

"La Grande Bouffe"/ Ferreri (with Piccoli, Tognazzi, Mastroianni....ma !)

"Touche Pas a la Femme Blanche"/Ferreri, as a colonel of the american secession war (just saying that the set was nowadays, in center of Paris !!)

"Zazie dans le Métro"/Malle (from Raymond Queneau, one of our best non sensic writter)

"Murphy's War"/ Yates (with Peter O'Toole, where he was very good for a first international !)

"Les Grands Ducs"/Leconte, with other great friends of his, Jean-Pierre Marielle and Jean Rochefort (with who Terry Gilliam might have done his "Don Quijote", poor Terry , he is really cursed !, judicious choice it was indeed !)

"Le Vieux Fusil"/Enrico (well begining love story, but bad ending!)

"Cinema Paradisio"/Tornatore

"La Vie de Château"/Rapeneau (a great comedy, where he was a gentleman farmer nicely matched with young Catherine Deneuve, two days before alliés debarquement in Normandy)

Just wanted to pay homage......
