In the seventies i had a saturday job in the Bispham area of Blackpool and i frequently saw Tony Melody walking by with his shopping bag, if you passed him he would often greet you with a "mornin' " or "aftnoon".
About five years ago I used to pass Trevor Eve quite often around the Thornton Heath High Street area or just passing the Tesco on that corner. He was usually pushing a baby buggy on his own but sometimes walking with a woman who I assume was his wife. I hadn't seen him since the Shoestring days but he still looked the same.
Anyone else have those mental "It's that actor from - oh! y'know?" moments?

I lived in the same town as Kathy Staff (Dukinfield in Cheshire). She was always
very pleasant whenever she was seen locally. She still is from all accounts.
I used to serve Ruth Maddock in Debenhams Swansea, she was always wonderfully nice, and talk about a lady with a real presence :-)
When the BBC HQ was on Queen Margaret Drive, I occasionally bumped into various Scottish TV stalwarts on Byres Road. I chatted once or twice to Brian Pettifer, as he had recently played one of my all-time heroes, David Hume, in a drama-doc on the Scottish Enlightenment. He was very pleased at least one person had seen it!
I'd just remembered a great place for stalkers of actors who one would think were long dead are at exhibitions. They're the people who have time to talk as the younger ones don't know who they are, so aren't usually surrounded.
Whilst working at an exhibition in Earl's Court I recognised Fred Harris from (was it) BBC Micro Live and he was every bit as amiable as he seemed on that show.
Before the refit at Ealing Studios, the restaurant and bar called Planet Ealing was a great place to sit, have a drink and ignore everyone sitting around you who you knew off the telly.
My mother grew up in Westminster and, on her way to work every morning, she used to see Basil Radford......"nothing to write home about" apparently, according to her!
There used to be a cafe called "The Acropolis" down The Cut, near to the Old Vic where, in the afternoon at tea time, I used to see the likes of Eileen Atkins, David Yelland, Geoffrey Palmer and Tony Osoba having a cuppa.
I've often wondered where Kevin Spacey goes for his morning coffee!
DS x.
In South Woodford I used to see George Sewell RIP. Also in E18 my wife met and had a coffee with Brian Bovell (Prospects). Nearby in Woodford Bridge I used to see Kate Williams (Love Thy Neighbour + Prospects).

A mate and I passed Brian Sewell too, not far from Clapham Junction station. He had that "Please don't talk to me!" look of worry on his face.
