Okay, not a British actor, but he has played Prince Phillip in The Queen and the Reverend Austen in Finding Jane. He is a talented actor, who has played a fictional President in The Sum Of All Fears,President Bush Senior in the forthcoming W,and will also be playing Lyndon B Johnson in Flying Into Love, which is a film about the assassination of JFK from the viewpoint of LBJ and Jackie.

I have just seen him in the delightful film,Babe, and he was outstanding as the corrupt cop in LA Confidential. For a while I thought he was British, until I read he played one of Archie Bunker's pals in All In The Family.

His parents were the film director John Cromwell (Abe Lincoln in Illinois, the Ronald Colman version of The Prisoner of Zenda etc) and the actress Kay Johnson.

As well as being one of the tallest in Hollywood, he stands even higher for his committed views on our treatment of animals...I understand he's been arrested at a protest or two for the treatment of farm animals.

    I like him immensely.

Here's what the Humane Soc of US say about him.

'A highly respected, busy actor who has starred in numerous film and television productions, including L.A. Confidential, The Green Mile, Angels in America, Six Feet Under and more recently, the sci-fi extravaganza I-Robot, Cromwell somehow finds the time to work on the issues he cares about: animals and the environment. To increase the public's awareness of farm animal issues, Cromwell taped a video PSA for The HSUS in celebration of National Farm Animals Awareness Week (the third week in September). A proud vegan, Cromwell attributes his conversion to a series of events beginning with a disturbing motorcycle ride through the stockyards of Texas, and culminating with his role in Babe.'
