You bet!! Fabulously sexy redhead with an equally sexy, croaky voice! I associate her with so many performances in so many programmes it's difficult to know where to start. I udated her CV at IMDB not long ago but I'm sure lots of small, uncredited parts will be missing because they do not appear in the various catalogue sources.Used to wear her hair piled up on the top of her head in a very 50/60s fashion which is rare these days.
couldn't agree more ! especially that voice !
cheers Ollie.
I'm sure it was her that my late, ex-husband said he used to see at all the big boxing matches.
Is this the same one?
Jo Rowbottom
That's her.
blimey it's quite hard to find a good pic of her, here's another but it's not exactly how i remember her
Aveleyman - Jo Rowbottom

That picture is from the 1980's or later and, as you say, it's not how we remember her in her halcyon days...

I remember Jo Rowbottom when I think of her it reminds me of many actors and actresses who were always on our screens in the seventies.
How about these for memory joggers, Fanny Carby, Patsy Rowlands, Deddie Davies, Michael Sharvel-Martin, Ronnie Brody, Barbara Mitchell, the sowewhat scary Sheila Keith, Larry Martyn, Robin Parkinson, Peggy-Ann Clifford, Jo Warne, Jonathan Cecil, Norman Mitchell, Derek Francis.
The list goes on, I know all the above were straight actors but they all made regular appearnces in sitcoms or variety shows
Hey all
Just did a bit of a search for my Mother and came accross this thread. Im her son.
Im quite impressed with whoever filled out her IMDB profile, so thanks Cully for the effort there. Im also impressed that you remember her voice so well.
She is still doing well, though she gave up acting in the late '80's to look after me and my Brother more.
Ill see if I can scan some photos Ive got of her and get them online, as I too find it quite hard to find Photos of her early stuff. I think my Dads got some photos of her with Morecambe and Wise, which I think is probably the era you guys are looking for.
THe Photo on the Aveleyman website is from I Claudius, where she played Calpernia in 2 episodes. Thats '76, though I think that IMDB has the year of birth wrong...
One thing I will say is that Im pretty sure that she was not at any Boxing matches, she hates Boxing with a passion! So Sorry Dame Starry Im sure that it wasn't her!
Anyway its good to see she still has fans!

That's good enough for me - apologies!name='Gingerwerewolf']

Wow, Jon, that's terrific...you're Jo Rowbottom's son!
Yes, as I said, I used all the available sites to update her CV at IMDB which had so much info missing so I'm glad that somebody appreciated the work I put in. However, I'm sure if your mum studied the CV she would exclaim "there's SO MUCH missing" for the simple reason that in the years when her old fans remember her she would have appeared in lots of memorable walk on parts but not mentioned in the end credits.
She was funny in the Bargee, wonderfully glamorous in the Liquidator, a cheeky waitress in Steptoe...
Jon, please tell her all her many fans remember her (and THAT voice!) with great affection!![]()
Oh...and we WOULD appreciate you posting some nice pics from the 60's...![]()
For all fans of Jo and her son, Jon, here is a URL I found on YouTube. Strange film with footage apparently taken from 2 Armchair Theatre plays. Jo is in the first half of the video and the play is The Blackmailing of Mr S from 1964 when she was only about 21 or 22. Nice footage but I only wish there was more of it!

Hooray! More footage of Jo from that play.....doing a spot of blackmailing!

I remember Jo Rowbottom really well, she seemed to be in EVERYTHING in the 70s. I remember a Dixon of Dock Green particularly well, when she played a terrible mother who favoured one daughter over another (Pauline Quirke as I recall). She was a very familiar face to me.
