    It's a sad story for sure. Their son Ian acts occasionally and resembles both his parents. As for Mary Ure she was also highly regarded for her Desdemona on stage opposite Paul Robeson, and was formerly the wife of John Osbourne, perhaps cursed more than anyone in his choice of wives or his treatment of them.

    I'm not a fan AT ALL of the Theatre (too ephemeral) and yet, as everyone knows, love actors and actresses

    from days gone by. My obsession with images at least creates enough interest in these two pictures from

    Mary's theatrical career, but I can't help wishing the plays had been filmed as they are now forgotten.

    African-American singer-actor Paul Robeson (1898 - 1976) in the

    role of Othello at Stratford-upon-Avon with Mary Ure as Desdemona.

    It's only while transcribing that caption, from the JAMD website, that

    I've realised Paul Robeson actually outlived Mary Ure by three years.

    I wonder how he reacted to the early death of one of his co-stars?
