im currently watching series two of saxondale . the funniest thing in it for me is morwenna banks as vikki ,shes always winding "tommy babes " up to provoke his anger which he obviously has issues with .

its got me thinking what other instances is there of supporting actors stealing the show either in tv or film ?

The first two were scene-stealers - their ONLY scene in these films.

Yootha Joyce at the hairdressers in The Pumpkin Eater (getting the better of Anne Bancroft!)

Denholm Elliott as the abortionist in Alfie (even Michael Caine and Vivien Merchant were outclassed here)

Clifford Parrish in Thriller - Someone At The Top Of The Stairs (gotta love Clifford)

Kulvinder Ghir in Rita, Sue And Bob Too (yes, I have seen a few 'recent' films)

Edmund Gwenn in Foreign Correspondent (by way of a contrast)

Staying with Hitchcock, what about that Jester that kept popping up to haunt poor Anny Ondra?! He certainly made an impression!

There must be dozens of others. A good subject. I'm surprised it's taken this long for a response.

Hay Petrie did it all the time; as the Danish brothers in Contraband, the Private Baldrick figure in Suspense, but most endearingly in 21 days, where he steals the film from Larry and Viv, of all people....

Which is quite an achievement for a corpse. Of course, Charters and Caldicott did get their own tv series too

What got me about George Dixon was that he was still a serving copper in 1976 with his WW1 medal ribbons on his chest....

Though I don't think he moved from the desk during his last five years of employment.

Jack Warner must be the spin-off king - he got one from Holiday Camp too

Off the top of my head, and as has possibly been mentioned on another thread: Steven Tompkinson in 'Brassed Off'.

A passing thought: when they get that CERN machine going and rip open a hole in the fabric of the universe... a new destination for Ewan Macgregor and Charlie Boorman to ride off to perhaps?

Alan 'and call off Christmas' Rickman in Robin Hood, Price of Thieves.

One nice story was of Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday, his name was going to be above the title. During filming he was so sure that Audrey Hepburn had put in an award winning performance that he requested that her name went along side his.

John Thaw was equally generous to Dennis Waterman in the early days of The Sweeney.
