Agree for some of the obscurer ones, but the actor / actress lists seem to be partial lists of films and partial lists of TV programmes. In Cherie's case, very partial, more missing than included......
While searching for pictures of Patrick Durkin for his thread earlier today I came across this useful website, which is extremely useful for identifying actors:
The Actors Compendium - Filmography listings of actors and actresses
Agree for some of the obscurer ones, but the actor / actress lists seem to be partial lists of films and partial lists of TV programmes. In Cherie's case, very partial, more missing than included......
The excellent site is the creation of our own Wearysloth. The Name that Face thread would be very thin without it![]()
Indeed Weary is doing a great job there, as well as being a great site I wonder how many hours he has saved those of us adding thespian 'mug shots' in DVD Profiler![]()
Cheers!
I shall endeavour to improve the page for Ms. Lunghi!
You have an outstanding collection of images, Wearysloth. I watched Rasputin, The Mad Monk for the first time a few hours ago and, as usual, was frustrated with my inability to recognise some of the actors, including Jeremy Young and a heavily bearded Joss Ackland. It was only through visiting your page afterwards (linked above), that I identified them. Bartlett Mullins was another. Brian Wilde's distinctive voice made it easy for me as far as he was concerned, despite his beard, but it was precisely 56 MINUTES before Richard Pasco registeredI think it was the first time in the film he removed his glasses, to reveal those distinctive eyes.
So a lot of interesting and invaluable discoveries but I must say I have found it heartbreaking looking at some of the faces I've grown used to viewing in their 1960s and 70s heyday looking much older and frankly unrecogniseable. Shallow as it may seem, I prefer to see them the way they were - including the actors I'm featuring here. I notice you've used quite a few of my captures (credit PLEASE!) and would like to help fill some of the gaps in films and shows you've illustrated (and maybe some you haven't), such as this episode of Adam Adamant Lives! - The Village of Evil.
First and foremost, I have to point out that the John Henderson who played the vicar isn't the same one as your Tour Guide man in Father Ted - The Mainland, who is known as John Henderson (XVI) at IMDb. This is the Adam Adamant actor, credited as John Henderson (III) at the same site:
"Ah, I find that the country people have a strong and simple faith!"
My second capture of Christoher Coll for your profile on him, following the one from Follyfoot:
![]()
I need to improve on the Follyfoot one as the emphasis was more on the framed photograph*
Here's John Bailey, who, coincidentally, was also in the aforementioned Rasputin, the Mad Monk:
"Because tonight, doctor, is the Sabbat!"![]()
A big close-up for a big star (then): Gerald Harper as the Victorian hero
"And I, for one, intend to be one of the congregation (of witches)"
All of the above captures were done while I was working on my first post for Colette O'Neil's thread.
Let me know how else I can be of help. More from Portrait of a Lady, for instance?
*Christopher was the very first Name That Face, which I originally introduced at Unmentioned Actors & Actresses Of The Past - Page 3 - post #38
Thanks! and apologies, Corner, I shall try to be more dilligent! There are now so many images out there - I can't keep track of them all (79,772 in all with 27,326 unique actors).
...mistakes I've made a few, I just discovered I had 4 different permutation listings for the late Collin Wilcox...
Yes, I've pinched a few other folks images too he said with chagrin.
We have a difference of opinion on the aging of actors, I'm always pleased to see the 'old school' if nothing else it proves they are hale & hearty!
I'm working on a submission catch all feature that will benefit your work and a gallery for Aitch
but once again I don't use 'sloth' as my nom-de-plume for nowt!
I very much enjoyed and am thankful for the 'sleuthing' on the Olga Anthony thread recently.
cheers
~weary
Thank you for putting up the Adam Adamant screencaps and for crediting me. You already have one of
Felicity Gibson from the first episode of Portrait so these will be new to you, including the opening titles:
I can't make up my mind with these shots of Suzanne Neve so I'll leave it up to you to decide:
A rare capture of an American Actor - Richard Chamberlain is the first to be added to the new folder:
A young Edward Fox, who could also be seen that month (January 1968) in a now-lost Public Eye:
In fact that episode was broadcast on the same day as the second part of Portrait, which he wasn't in.
I'll have captures of the other actors (Beatrix Lehmann, Alan Gifford, Ed Bishop, Sarah Brackett) next time:
Hopefully you'll get more 'hits' after people have visited this thread.
Excellent! All power to your elbow my friend.
Thank you very much, Kelp. Cully used that expression the other day!
Disappointingly, my last contribution today is to correct myself regarding Edward Fox's episodes. He was in Parts 1, 2, 4 and 5, but not 3 and 6. It was the third episode of The Portrait of a Lady that was shown the same day as his Public Eye appearance (If This Is Lucky I'd Rather Be Jonah), 20th January 1968. Sheila Fearn, who also guested, had her episode of Paul Temple destroyed as well. Looks like I'll have to screencap those shows in 'TV Heaven', Wearysloth. Can't wait ...
Well done Weary, I can always find many good faces on there from my past...
I have updated some of my web this week getting it ready for a book write.
Everything comes to those who work / wait....
Aitch,
More from Proposals ...
You don't have any images of Sarah Brackett yet, so I hope you'll be pleased with this one:
![]()
Alan Gifford, who I mainly remember from Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased):
Ed Bishop has his proposal rejected by Suzanne Neve in this scene, but they were married in UFO:
![]()
I returned to the episode earlier, five months on from the other captures, and added Beatrix Lehmann:
That's as much as I could do. The laptop's screen was badly damaged in August and liquid blobs make
viewing almost impossible but I still managed to do that one of Beatrix as I paused every frame of her
close-ups. Until I get a new screen, it looks like all my Region 1 'caps' will be done this way for awhile.
I'll try and find the remaining actors for this and Adam Adamant - The Village of Evil soon.
I've been reminded of an old folder, from my laptop, containing captures from the episode One White Foot Charley (1971),
You already have Kay Gallie, Keith James and Bert Palmer but I would like to do a more flattering image of Christopher Coll.
I don't always do programme and episode titles so you're in luck here:
This is Paul Guess, who as a child actor appeared alongside Adrienne Posta in The Master (1966):
Another actor missing from your photo collection, Wallace Campbell ... who was in a missing Public Eye:
A pre-Norah Batty role for Kathy Staff (Mr. Coll makes his second appearance in this thread already!):
Finally, a capture that was first seen at the disastrous 'Our Favourite Scenes' thread, but which
will find much better use on your page for this episode - Gillian Blake as leading character Dora:
![]()
Thanks muchly!
Here's the link to the episode
Portrait of a Lady: Proposals
I almost...almost...might have been tempted to add Ed Bishop to the 'actors we didn't recognize' thread based on that picture.
Thanks for putting up all these captures. I notice you've included the one I did
of James Bree for his thread and have a few more you can add to your page.
This is from Wikipedia's page on the series:
Something else you can use:
Nigel Stock played No. 6 on this occasion, while Patrick McGoohan was filming Ice Station Zebra:
This is the first time Number Six sees his new self in the mirror
Clifford Evans is a favourite of mine but I think he was underused and therefore one of the weaker No. 2s:
"Tomorrow you will wake up a new man!"
This is Patrick Jordan, who is in the same scene as James Bree. I'm fascinated by this actor's hair!:
That's because it was completely grey when he was in Budgie, just four years later in 1971.
I have him earmarked as a future subject of 'Actors We Didn't Recognise' - because I didn't!
Without wishing to just point out errors at weary's superb site (1,000's of faces so a few are inevitable!). However one tiny error I spotted regards Geoffrey Toone, the main picture when selecting his name is actually of Basil Henson (from Dr. Crippen).
Here is Geoffrey:
P.S: Yet more great work cornershop!
Patrick Jordan looking stony in Too Late the Hero
He also does a good impersonation of Brian Wilde
Here in You Only Live Twice
I'm 70% convinced that is Patrick though...
unless anyone knows different?
Cheers Cornershop15 for the pics!
and I shall have a look see at Dr. Crippen for Harbottle!
I can confirm that both pictures are of Patrick Jordan. If he's still alive, he was 86 last week.
Another thing I remember Patrick from is (inevitably) Public Eye, in the episode Hard Times
(1975). He plays a barman who's intimidated by the menacing stare of gangster Ray Lonnen:
EDIT - Might as well include the corresponding image (from the frame before) of Ray as Jimmy Knaggs:
I remember, at his thread, someone compared Ray Lonnen to Ray Davies. I can see a resemblance here
P.S, Thanks again to Wearysloth and to Harbottle for his earlier compliment
That new thread where wellendcanons is asking for the identity of two ITC Extras inspired me to
do a couple of ATWs from the Randall and Hopkirk episode That's How Murder Snowballs last night:
I'd forgotten Liz Fraser was in this, only a couple of years after she appeared in The Family Way:
No, it's not Sky Sports presenter Sam Matterface, this happens to be Mr. Rose actor Graham Armitage:
The following two captures are from All Work and No Pay, which was the previous episode ...
This one of Noel Davis was included in my opening post at 'Where Have We Seen Them Before?:'
I see you have Michael Rathbone's appearance as a Taxi Driver in Doctor Who - The War Machines listed,
but no picture. This is how he looked as 'Man in Laundromat', who sees Jeff talking to the invisible Marty:
These are from Just for the Record ...
I used this one of Danny Green recently at a thread called 'Portly Actors':
That's Danny's shoulder on the left but the main man here is Nosher Powell, better known as a stuntman:
Cheers!
While I was digging for Kathleen Heath in The Ghost Goes Gear I chanced upon
Jack Haig, Arthur Howard, Joan Ingram and a defoliated Tony Sympson
Information on Joan is in short supply on the 'net, he noted, hoping that someone might have some info, her last outting was in 1973's Steptoe and Son Ride Again
