There is an interview with Mr. Cope in this months Manxtails discussing mainly the above. Far too big for here but if anyone wants a copy tell me and I will send it to their email as an attachment. Total size about 100kb.

    It is a good read

As far as I can ascertain, no one has started a thread on Kenny yet. (Forgive me if I've overlooked him.) So I thought I'd make a start.

I had the great pleasure of meeting him, and Renny and Martha his wife and daughter, at a Collectormania event at Manchester Gmex three and a half years ago. Like me, he was born in the Wavertree area of Liverpool. He's a really nice guy and I'm very proud to have made his acquaintance.

I love watching him in absolutely anything, but especially Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased).

He was very funny in George & Mildred and the Carry On films.

Ken was great in his starring roles in the Carry On films - Convenience and Matron, and fitted in seamlessly with the regulars, IMO.

The IMDB suggests that he also had an uncredited part in Carry On Jack!

He has appeared as three different characters in Minder.

1), Albert Stubbs in 'Bury My Half At Waltham Green'.

2), Scooter in 'Waiting For Goddard'.

3), Phelan in 'Bring Me The Head Of Arthur Daley'.

I wonder how affected he was by Mike Pratt's early death.

He used to be in loads of black and white plays I think. My older brother was always going on about him. I remember him with Minnie Caldwell, and he would have been great in a remake of one of Alec Guinness' old movies.

Yes, he was Minnie Caldwell's lodger in Coronation Street decades ago. I can't remember the name of his character, but she called him "Sunny Jim"...or was that her cat? Like I said, it's a long time ago, probably the late 1960's.

Yes he played character Jed Stone in Coronation Street and Minnie Caldwell did nickname him Sonny Jim.

Kenneth Cope has relived the part as Jed Stone in recent times. I thought he was going to start dating Emily Bishop for a time but now it seems Manuel from Fawlty Towers has that privilege.

That's it, Jed Stone. It was on the tip of my tongue, but I just couldn't recall the name.

Was in Dateline Diamonds, filmed aboard the Pirate Radio ship Radio London in the mid 60's.

He was the Manager of The Small Faces.

An interesting film for those who were keen on Pirate Radio.

He was also part of the regular That Was The Week That Was gang. And he had a pretty impresive CV as a writer too!

There seem to be a lot of variations as to when Kenneth Cope's birthday actually is. According to Wickipedia it's 14th April. IMDb lists it as 14th June and Aveleyman lists it as 14th July.

I read on line that one fan had supposedly tracked down his birth certificate, which gave 14th April as his birthday. Only trouble is I can't remember where I read it! I think it's safe to assume it's the 14th ...... of something. Can anyone throw any light on this matter?

    Cheers.

Well a quick look at Free BMD reveals that his birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1931 so he could have been born in April, May or June...which at least rules July out! But much as I like Mr Cope I'm not paying seven quid for his birth certificate!

Kenneth Cope is also in what is, for my money, the worst Western ever made, The Desperados. Naturally it's British with fine British actors such as Sylvia Sims and John Paul performing in American accents. Thankfully, Kenny's travelling brothel-keeper gets to be English, which I 'm sure was a great relief.

Here's its IMDB listing - check out the reviews - it's one of those films where people want to tell you just how lousy it is!
