Was there ever a release on cine of highlights from the film, or even an abridged version. I still use Super 8 so would be interested to find out.

I've seen some Powell & Pressburger films on 16mm and a few trailers on 8mm. I think that any 8mm (or super 8) film of highlights would be a home made job cut together by someone rather than an official release. If there had been any official releases I think I would have seen them, or at least seen mention of them, by now

No there wasn't...Derann had a couple of second hand 16mm prints in Technicolor a few years back. Nothing official was ever released on 8mm.

Thanks chaps. Thats a pity. Even though i have a shedload of DVDs and videos, i still prize my 8mms far more. So even a 400ft reel of extracts would have been nice.

You'll have to upgrade to 35mm

As I said, I've seen some Powell & Pressburger trailers on 8mm. I've seen trailers for Stairway to Heaven (American title for A Matter of Life and Death) and for The Battle of the River Plate. I've also seen Black Narcissus (the full film) on 16mm.

Fore anything else I think you'd have to make your own clip show on 8mm

    If only i could.

I do have a 16 MM projector, but not working at the moment. It needs some attention, and i don't have the time just now.

I have a Super 8 night once a month, and i know it sounds a bit silly, but at this time of year it really is great fun. My son who is 13 totally loves it, and his taste in movies is absurd at best (Adam Sandler, Jack Black etc) Just so much more intimate than the box.

Just as a point of interest, there is a 400ft Super 8 of The Battle of the River Plate going for 16.50 as a Buy it Now on e bay. Colour and sound, selected scenes.. Not a bad price.

I would say that is a bit expensive 'Grey Wyler'...It's not a rare cut-down...and being an old Walton release I expect the colour has gone! At conventions it is about £5. However, for a bit of Rank VistaVision on 8mm go for it.

Pity you are so far away from me...I still love 8mm and have hundreds of shorts, cut-downs and features. However Digital now rules and the films (8,16 and 35mm) are gathering dust...If I do show an 8mm film it has to be before the DVD, as the quality of the digital leaves everything else behind!

El-Cid on 8mm scope was about the finest print available but even that looks pale against the German Blue Ray copy!

Are you a member of 'The Film Fanatics' club, that roam around your area, showing films on all gauges in their homes?

Join 'Projections' and get all the latest gossip from film collectors...Editor Pete Travers on yamawa@tiscali.co.uk it is only £8.50p per year plus 6 SAEs for a magazine every two months...excellent value, even for your part of the country.

"Film Man" i will check out Projections, looks as if it would be worthwhile.

Film Conventions up here in the wilds are few and far between, so most stuff i pick up now is via the net. I have my eye on a couple at the moment, and River Plate does look interesting even though i have the DVD.
