Does anyone recall a Valentine Dyall hosted series on TV in the early 50s called Explain This? It was part of the magazine programme Kaleidoscope.



In the programme, Dyall appeared as a Quatermass-type white coated scientist who introduced dramatisations of famous unsolved mysteries: The Devil's Hoofprints in Devon, disappearance of SS Waratah, disturbed coffins in Barbados etc. He invited viewers to submit rational explanations: e.g. sightings of the ghosts of soldiers at the battle of Edgehill a few years after the event could have been hallucinations caused by bread being contaminated by ergot poisoning.



I'm thinking of writing an article about the interest in Fortean events in the 50s and would welcome any recollections of the series.
