Guy Ritchie's 'Holmes' that is. I was asked this today and my first instinct was it's US or a co-pro, but on further thinking the director, locations, source material, co-star are British so it might tick enough Film Council boxes to qualify.

I often go on the 'feel' of a film - so it's a no-no for me.

i said that i'd watch ritchies holmes but the trailer completely put me off as it stank of hollywood! personally,i object to an american star playing the lead role in a film about a british character invented by a british author and set in britain !

it's an american film in my view.

Much better than I expected. All in all it was a good movie.

    According to IMDb it's a US/Germany collaberation.

Its tit for tat, Brits have played American characters IIRC,

most of the time its just a question of who is available and who will bring in the wonga at the box office

I was under the impression the forum judged films to be British for a number of reasons and not just the money. So if you consider this was a film about a British character, set in Britain, directed by a British director with a British co-star then I'd say that likely qualifies it as British. But personally I find anything that Ritchie does is always more than a little naff, so I don't really care either way.

What about some of those Hollywood movies in the 1930s with so many British actors if you didn't see the opening credits, you would think it was a British production?
