I never saw Charlie Bubbles either, but I've checked it out on Youtube, and the sex scene does not contain FC (Full Coitus). I'm sure that's not it.

Really intrigued by Narabdela and Will 15's responses. The plot thickens.

Michael York made a film the following year (1973) called "England Made Me" and if my memory serves me well he was dressed just like his character in "Cabaret". The leading lady was Hildegarde Neil. The star was Peter Finch.

For reference - though whether it'll help with the scene in question...

I just looked on the BBFC website and I notice that the original film release of Cabaret was classified X while the version now on video is 15. Maybe a judicious cut was made. Both versions are listed as having the same running time, but this might possibly be inaccurate.

Cabaret has never been cut by the BBFC. It was originally rated 'X' due to the nudity and subject matter being too extreme for the 'AA' certificate at the time (for which even nude scenes were often cut from).

The downgrading to a 15 was mainly due to the 'X' (now 18) being too harsh a certificate for the 80's. Video and DVD releases feature the original uncut cinema print.

Isn't the Michael York/Christopher Isherwood character in 'Cabaret' meant to be gay ?

Mainly, but people are allowed to experiment. Particularly in Weimar Berlin where all sorts of experimentation was the norm

In the book and original play there was no sexual relationship between the writer and Sally Bowles. The writer became heterosexual in the musical stage version and bi in the movie.
