I will be amazed if anyone can solve this little trick of the memory...

At about the age of 15 I saw 'Cabaret' on TV (must have been around 1979). I seem to recall feeling quite embarrassed because I was with my parents, and there was a sex scene in the movie.

Recently I watched it again and the sex scene was conspicuously absent. I've asked on imdb boards and have been assured that no such scene ever existed.

What I recall is Sally Bowles sitting astride Brian (Michael York), who is lying on the bed. The scene is shot from behind, so you only see her back. She is laughing with delight, and leans backwards at one point, causing him to whoop with alarm and delight.

The question is: what on earth am I remembering?

KZY - I've watched Cabaret umpteen times and I can't recall such a scene. Maybe your embarrassment-quotient was a lot higher in your youthful days, esp when your parents were around. (Believe me, it was even worse some years previously!!). There was some 'frollicking' between the main characters, but not, as far as I can recall, any 'sex' scene. Though I'm now prepared to be proved wrong.

I am with you there is a "frolic" which is certainly meant to be post-coital but that's as near as it gets.

I would have thought the Bob Fosse choreography would be enough to make you squirm in front of your parents, it certainly made my dad Hrrmph.

I agree with you, it's definitely not there in the film. What I'm wondering is: which film AM I remembering? It sticks in my mind particularly because I didn't, at that age, understand why Michael York (or whoever it was) appeared to be in some pain when Liza Minnelli (or whoever it was) leant backwards. It's a very specific memory, so I'm assuming it must be of something.

Sounds more like a scene from The Night Porter.

Was it Logan's Run(but our Jenny doesn't look much like Liza.)?

Which of course was Bogarde & Rampling. Don't recall that being on TV?

Did Michael York do anything like that in the Musketeers films, which one might also see with parents?

He did a bit of romping with both Raquel Welch and Faye Dunaway in the 'Musketeer' films, plus with a supporting actress as well IIRC.

What about Arthur? Could you possibly be thinking of Liza in that movie?

All of these are possible. It depends if that particular scene occurs in one of them. I've certainly seen 'Musketeers' and 'Arthur' only once.

Oh NO! you're going to have to watch a whole bunch of films with sex scenes in them all over again! In the name of science, obviously.

Well, good luck. If you're not back in three days, we'll send the dogs in.

I think one of the funniest, and yeah a certain sexiness abounds, is the Musketeer film in which Raquel's boobs make their entrance through the carriage window, much to the delight of Frank Thornton I believe?

I may be in a minority here, haven't seen the movie since it was first released, but I thought the sex scene described was in the movie, too. I wouldn't swear on it, but that was my impression.

I've only seen it the once, but I must say that the description did ring a bell with me too.

Just a guess, but are you sure it wasn't Liza and Albert Finney having a romp in Charlie Bubbles?
