Same here. Twisted Nerve also benefits from a genuinely unsettling atmosphere and a superb Bernard Herrmann score.

Both are worth watching but not scrutinising too deeply; they're very-70s psycho-thrillers. I love road-movies so have a slight preference for Deadly Strangers.

Both are great. Have not seen Deadly Strangers for years, would love to watch it again.

I remember there was slight controversy around Twisted Nerve, but cannot recall all the details. Bennett and Mills were a cool team.

'Deadly Strangers' is my all time favourite film, so I'm biased in saying that I think it's the best of the two. I know it has it's inconsistencies and quirks, but it has a special place in my heart! 'Twisted Nerve' is also great, though (and available officially).

In the film Hywel Bennett has a brother who has Down's Syndrome, and it was taken by some to suggest that sufferers of DS (or 'mongolism' as the film then calls it) had the potential to exhibit psychotic or homicidal behaviour. A prologue was added to the film to stress that there was no connection between the two.

Thanks Vincenzo. I remember now. Maybe the reason why it disappeared for so long. Years ago i had the EMI Video on VHS, i swapped it for an Alain Delon movie called The Greatest Attack. What a mug i was.

The Optimum DVD is pretty easy to pick up, GW. Totally devoid of extras (and fullscreen) but a nice print.

I'll keep an eye out for that. Recently watched The Family Way again, thats a cracking movie as well. I must look out my copy of Endless Night too and give that another look,

Hywell Bennett appears naked in 'Twisted Nerve' and Hayley appears naked in 'Deadly Strangers' if that helps you make up your mind.

Another thumbs up for Deadly Strangers

I think it is a very under-rated psycho thriller - and nice to see some South West locations.

PS. Oh, and as mentioned, Hayley is in the buff - what's not to like

I'm a big fan of Sidney Hayers, so it's Deadly Strangers for me. It's a difficult title to get hold of these days though and the copy I managed to get from E Bay is not the full version, the scenes with Peter Jeffrey are pretty truncated. For those Hayley fans out there, she doesn't strip off completely (at least not in my version) only the bra is removed..

Twisted Nerve is also pretty good.

Twisted is a superb thriller IMHO but suffers slightly from 'cod psychology'

Both films are great, but I would have to say that Deadly Strangers is my fave of the two. A special mention to Sterling Hayden who gives a wonderfully eccentric performance - a character I would have loved to have seen fleshed out in other films.
