Default Night of The Demon

I was amazed to see the Demon in the scene with Maurice Denham at the start. I always thought that it only appeared at the end. Also has anyone any idea where Karswells house is?? his card said Warwickshire.

They cut it for the American market and the one on the other night was the full English version. The American cut is shown more often than the full English version so you must have seen the cut version where the Demon only appears at the end.

Default Only the British Version!

Ironically, I've just been watching this movie under the US title "CURSE OF THE DEMON" on Turner Movie Classics here in the USA.

The US version suffers many unforgivable cuts... try to see the UK original: NIGHT OF THE DEMON instead,

In both versions... note the superb lighting of all the action scenes...small point I know, but the devil is in the details (pun intended!)

This is one of the things that makes a good movie GREAT!! and why we're still talking about it 50 years (yes, 50 YEARS!!) later.

I have both versions on dvd, the American being 82 mins and the British 95 mins.
The scene with the Demon at the begining of the film is in both the American and British versions.

the last time this aired (as "night of the demon) on late night tv - i taped it but the reception left a bit lot be desired so i taped over it. a very underrated film in my opinion - i first saw it when i was about 14 and it left a deep impression on me - must get the dvd.

One of the great films, the director did not really want to have the demon model put in and would have prefered to leave it to one's imagination. A very atmospheric quintissential British horror movie. based on M R James "Casting of the Runes" has anyone seen the 1970's BBC version of this? on DVD now.

I'll have to track that one down. There's no monster in the 70s Jan Francis version either but I don't think it adds or subtracts from the story.

Out of curiousity I looked it up on IMDB. It was the Jan Francis version I saw. I remembered it as being a BBC production, not an ITV programme. Must be old age creeping up on me. I have not seen the 1968 BBC version. I would love to see that too, if it still exists!

I think the ITV version doing the rounds is rather memorable as it has the VT clock countdown at the start and for the advertising break.

Is that on the Network release .... or is this some 'other' version?

Ahem. Other. I didn't even realise Network had released it and thought it was going to be an extra on the aborted NotD disc.

I have seen a version on TV where the demon doesn't appear at the start. Perhaps it suffered more cuts courtesy of some philistine programme controller!
