Default Actor in "We Dive at Dawn"

Hello all,

I have posted previously but did not take the opportunity to introduce myself properly. I am very interested in WW2 British cinema, and am currently researching a thesis on representations of food and rationing in Briitsh films between 1939 and 1945.

I am something of a fan of "We Dive at Dawn" and was wondering if anyone could identify the actor who plays a character called Dusty in the film. Having checked IMDB etc, I can find no mention of his name.

I have an image of this winsome chap, but not being a coputer whizz can't see how to attach it.

Regards
WickedLadyKiller

Some films seemed to ignore the food problem and lived in a never never land.

No one seems to have the answer, so perhaps we do need a photograph. Perhaps one of the moderators can help you get a picture up? Can you advise please guys?

Could the actor you are after be Jack Watling. He was in the film and would have been young and winsome at the time.

We can rule Goodliffe out...he was captured at Dunkirk so was acting in a German POW camp while the film was being made....

Are you sure the character is called "Dusty" not "Flunkey"? (Philip Godfrey). Just a thought.

"I've come a long way you know!" "Equally long way to go back..."

He is called Dusty at several points throughout the film (including when his name is shown being wiped off the credit list at his local pub). Is it possible that Flunkey refers to his position onboard the Sea Tiger? Are there any submariners out there who know?

One scene with him is described in Neil Rattigan's This Is England
