Would anyone know the date that the western Major Dundee got its release in Britain in 1965? I can remember seeing this film in my local cinema in South Wales in December,1965, but presumably it received an earlier release in other parts of the country. I really would be extremely grateful if anyone can provide me with the information.

The earliest European release seems to be March 1965 in Denmark, with the rest of Europe following in April 1965.

Though "uncut" is certainly a matter of opinion. Isn't that the film the studio took away from Peckinpah and re-edited? It's a mess.

Yes indeed it was James...and Heston sent his cheque back to the distributor saying it wasn't the film he made...and they kept it!

"Uncut" in terms of "No BBFC cuts".

There is a recent Special Edition DVD which as well as restoring the print has made an attempt to honour the directors original vision by reinstating previously cut scenes with existing material , there is also a newly commissioned soundtrack which replaces the original music which Peckinpah hated, I've watched it and its a big improvement on the original theatrical version. Its currently available at amazon for about 3 quid,.... bargain.
