Hi, i am new to the forum,

But i joined because i really want to find out what this film is.
I have a 35mm reel of it and i am just baffled as to what it might be. It might to be British (although i think its spoken English) but i do live in London and i bought it at a antique shop a while ago so it might be.
I think its from the 40s/50s or 60s but i dont know for sure.
I have taken some pictures of some of the cells so here they are in order of the film.
Any help would be so appreciated.

Can I suggest that you contact the BFI to see either their viewing it or your being able to utilise their Steinbeck viewing machines, for which service you would have to pay. Also just check that it is safety film and not Nitrate. If the latter you should in any event ask the BFI to take it as it dangerous to keep.

    Hi,

Thanks for replying. I had thought about contacting the BFI, but how should i go about doing it. Their list of emails and telephone numbers are endless.
    What ones should i use?
I know there can be dangerous film out there but i doubt this is dangerous because i have had it for quite sometime and no problems as of yet. I keep it in a really heavy metal film can from the period it was made.

The last picture, the actor on the right in profile looks very familiar, but I can't put a name to him. I am certain that is an American actor and it looks like that is a 1950s movie or television episode.

If you don't get results here, I suggest you post just the last picture on the imdb board under "I need to know" and ask for identification of the two actors. If you can get either one identified, (more likely the one I mentioned) it could help track down the movie.

I also had reels of 35mm Nitrate Film and got no help from the BFI...I then tried the local fire brigade who had no idea what I was talking about...and said to try the dump! I then tried The National Film Archive (part of the BFI) and spoke to Charles Fairall...he was most concerned that I hadn't been given help from the BFI direct. He arranged for a special van to pick them up a few weeks back. I like to think I know a bit about film...but suppose I was a guy who had found Hitchcock's lost silent films and didn't know what to do with them? Charles did say he would look into a website link.

Image IMG_603 includes the word "SAFETY" at the dark right edge of the sprocket holes, just above the 26K 090793 markings.

The aircraft is a Lockheed Super Constellation.

And could the actor in IMG-603 be Warner Oland?

Have a look at this portrait by Imogen Cunningham of Warner.

No, after checking his entry in IMDB, it can't be Warner as the Super Constellation was a post-war aircraft, and Warner died in 1938.

I don't want you to mess up your movie, but if you can find a still of the leading actor or lady it could help. I know I have seen that actor in the last still, but don't think he is a star. Something tells me I saw him on the Outer Limits. Nick Dando's ID of the plane means the movie was made no earlier than 1945, the first year the plane was used commercially.

I never saw the beginning of it, but I am wondering if this could be The Mountain starring Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner, which had two brothers climbing a mountain in India where a plane had crashed, which was based on a true incident. It was a Lockheed made plane. The problem is the plane crash if it is in the movie would be the first reel and your reel is not the beginning of the picture as it doesn't have opening credits. But otherwise you have a plane and India in your frames.

Roll it down a little further to see if Wagner or Tracy shows up.

Scratch that idea. The Mountain was in color.

I wouldn't be too stuck on the idea that because it's on 35mm, it's a film.....it could equally be an episode of a TV show, the Taj Mahal and the plane would be stock footage in both cases.

It could be stock footage even if it is a feature film, particularly if it is a B and so far there is nothing to indicate big budget.

In the last picture, the actor on the right looks a bit like Richard Carlson.

I think you are right Gerald, It looks like Richard Carlson to me. Trying to find out which production the stills are from is another matter though.

I think the production is from the early fifties when RC would have been in his early forties. To me it looks like it might be a telly play, RC did a lot of those in the fifties for the likes of Kraft and other sponsors.

If Gerald is right about Richard Carlson then the film might be Bengazi (1955), in which case the other actor is probably Victor McLagen:

I also think this could be Jay Novello:

That isn't a mosque. It's the Taj Mahal at Agra, which is a mausoleum. And Agra is a long, long way from Bengazi in Libya.

Here is the trailer for Bengazi and I would say the man in that picture is absolutely not VM (who I just found out wasn't Irish). I don't think that is Richard Carlson, but I can't say for sure. If the OP really wants to ID that movie, which doesn't appear to be a classic, he should post some close-ups of the movie's main actors. A picture of the actor who may be RC can be better identified with a full picture of his face. I was thinking of someone else, but I don't know his name and don't think he would have been the lead actor.

I should qualify that with IF it is a movie, but knowing the actors still could help us figure it out if it from TV.

Cornershop I think your Jay Novello is actually Lon Chaney Jnr.
